Holiday Hoops set to tip-off for area basketball squads

Malvern, Glen Rose, Magnet Cove, Poyen, Bismarck

This week several area high school basketball teams will hoop it up on the hardwood for tournament and classic competitio­n during the holiday break.

The hometown Malvern Leopards and Lady Leopards, along with the Glen Rose Beavers and Lady Beavers and the Magnet Cove Panthers and Lady Panthers all are competing in the Sheridan Holiday Classic at the Yellowjack­et Arena—december 28-30.

During the Christmas holiday break, the Glen Rose Beavers and Lady Beavers traveled to Hot Springs National Park and competed in the Fountain Lake Holiday Classic for some intense hoops competitio­n facing Wonderview, Fountain Lake and Perryville.

Malvern also had their taste of hoop competitio­n in Hot Springs for two competitiv­e games in non-conference against Cutter Morning Star last week.

The Magnet Cove Panthers took care of business a lit- tle further up in Sa- line County and went unbeaten in the Bauxite Christmas Tournament. The Panthers successful­ly defeated Wynne, Mount Pine in the semifinals and captured the tournament championsh­ip against Stuttgart.

Today, the Bismarck Lions and Lady Lions are traveling to Indian Country to face Poyen for a little holiday hoops rivalry at the Jerry and Ouida Newton Arena in a non-conference encounter.

During the holiday break will conclude the first half schedule of the 20212022 basketball season as these squads look to go into the new year with a different style of fire to blossom for the second half of the season in 2022. Thus far, all hoops squads have made some noise during their bat- tles on the har d - wood and a im to carry their deter- mination for a huge run during con- ference season in preparatio­n for district, regionals and state tournament action in 2022.
