Panthers top Lions 54-36, Lady Lions edge off Lady Panthers 50-46

LIONS VS. PANTHERS

BISMARCK — In a showdown for the final game of the evening Monday at Holt Gymnasium, the Magnet Cove Panthers came out victorious against in-county rivals’ Bismarck Lions 54-36 during their non-conference encounter for senior high boys basketball competitio­n.

GAME SUMMARY

The Panthers never trailed during their entire 32 minute battle against the Lions. The Panthers held a 11-7 advantage over Bismarck after the opening eight minutes of the contest. In the second, Magnet Cove outscored Bismarck 15-10—at halftime, the Panthers headed to the locker room with a 26-17 lead over the Lions. In the second half, Magnet Cove sparked for 28 points while the Lions roared for 19 points total for third and fourth quarter scoring combined.

IMPACT PERFORMANC­ES

Magnet Cove’s big man Kadin Baker controlled the paint area with big buckets while Evin Ashcraft led all scorers as the only two players to post in double-figures. Ashcraft poured 15 points with three triples from beyond the arc—including a one-handed slam dunk—throw down in transition for the highlight move of the night. Baker followed with 14 points and scored 12 in the first half and executed two three-point plays the old fashioned way to finish in double-figures. Owen Tillery followed with eight points and drilled a triple beyond the arc. Big men Jace Beckwith added six points and Kizer Kidder contribute­d four points—jacob Clausen, Layne Evans and Peyton Plyler each had two points with Cade Davis chipping in one point from a trip at the foul line.

Bismarck’s Ian Smith roared for the Lions as their leading scorer with eight points and swished a triple from downtown. Blake Smith followed with seven points, Collin Parrie added six points with Collin Parrie and Carson House each posting five points apiece. HIGHLIGHTS

In the first quarter, Baker surged Magnet Cove with the game’s first two baskets while Parrie sank two foul shots to cut Bismarck’s deficit to 5-2 down to the 6:05 mark. Beckwith, Baker, and Tillery had buckets in the paint area for Magnet Cove. Ian Smith swished a triple to cut into Magnet Cove’s lead 7-5. In the closing seconds of the first, the Lions trailed 11-5 with Ian Smith sinking a floater for the buzzer-beater to close the gap for Bismarck trailing Magnet Cove by four points (11-7).

In the second, the game was tied twice 13-13 at the 4:32 mark and 15-15 at the 3:19 mark. Blake Smith and Ashcraft both drilled triples during the period. Ashcraft’s dunk and triple led to a nine-point halftime lead for Magnet Cove to close out the period’s scoring in a minute and 16 seconds left to play before the break. The Panthers highest scoring quarter in the third made the difference by pouring 22 points and defensivel­y held the Lions under double-digits with six points scored. After three quarters of action, Magnet Cove had a 48-23 lead over Bismarck. In the fourth, the Lions dropped 13 points with Porterfiel­d sinking both foul shots and Ian Smith splitting a pair of free-throws from trips at the charity stripe. Vanwie and Digiacomo each had buckets from the field—house drilled a triple for the final points of the game. Magnet Cove’s Kidder and Davis each split a pair of freethrows, while Evans and Plyler both scored the Panther’s two buckets inside the arc in their 18-point victory.

Today at Noon, the Bismarck Lions will continue rivalry hoops on the road against Poyen. The Magnet Cove Panthers will continue more road hoops in Sheridan during holiday tournament competitio­n.

LADY LIONS VS. LADY PANTHERS

BISMARCK — To highlight some intense holiday hoops on the hardwood Monday at Holt Gymnasium the Bismarck Lady Lions surged by their Hot Spring County neighbors Magnet Cove Lady Panthers 50-46 during a non-conference basketball meeting for their in-county rivalry dual in senior high girls competitio­n. BISMARCK— Lady Lion hoopsters Hannah Collie and Kady “KP” Pleasants of the “Big 3” powered Bismarck to their slim four-point win against the visiting Lady Panthers. Collie led all scorers with 21 points and nabbed five rebounds—while KP poured 18 points, dished out five assists with four as

sists and drilled four triples beyond the arc to post double-figures and extended their winning streak to six consecutiv­e victories and improved to 9-2 overall. Collie and Pleasants combined for 39 of the team’s 50 points. Victoria “Tori” Lingo of the “Big 3” contribute­d two points and came up big in defensive spurts and rebounding for the Lady Lions. Alydia Zia knocked two jumpers inside the perimeter for four points, Erin Fendley also added two points while Alivia Gordon finished with three points.

MAGNET COVE— Lady Panthers’ senior leader Karsen Davis led the way with 14 points and dropped two triples from downtown beyond the arc—true-freshman Neaira Walls scored a game-high 11 points for some damage around the post area to post in double-figures. Haley Mccauley followed with six points, true-freshman point guard Ella Williamson added five points, Marleigh Mccutcheon and Brianna Ramthun each contribute­d four points apiece and Haylie Helton finished with two points on the night. GAME SUMMARY

The Lady Lions soared to a 16-11 first quarter lead over Magnet Cove. Bismarck rolled to a 6-1 lead down to the 6:07 mark led by Collie sinking two shots with Lingo’s bucket while Pleasants dished out the assists to Collie during transition. Davis knocked down 3 of 4 free-throws from two trips to the charity stripe to cut Magnet Cove’s deficit to 6-4 down to the 5:45 mark. In the final five minutes during opening quarter action, Bismarck’s Gordon split a pair of free-throws while Collie and Pleasants finished out their scoring with KP swishing a triple for the final points of the period. Magnet Cove’s Mccauley, Helton and Walls all sank buckets from the field to keep the Lady Panthers within striking distance. In the second, the Lady Lions outscored the Lady Panthers 15-11—at halftime, Bismarck had a nine-point advantage, 31-22 lead over Magnet Cove. In the second half, the Magnet Cove outscored Bismarck 24-19 for third and fourth quarter scoring combined. UP NEXT

Today beginning at Noon, Bismarck travels to Poyen for more rivalry hoops. The Magnet Cove Lady Panthers head back to Sheridan today and Thursday to compete in the Sheridan Holiday Classic.
