Poyen, Bismarck split afternoon battles during holiday break hoops

Bismarck made the trip to Poyen for a rare Wednesday afternoon contest.

The junior varsity squads started things off, with both Bismarck teams winning. The Lady Indians got Poyen’s first win by holding on for a 44-39 victory. The Lions closed out the afternoon with a 42-32 win against the hosting Indians.

In the senior girls’ game, the Lady Indians led 18-9 after one quarter and 37-24 going into the final quarter, but the Lady Lions held Poyen to 1-3 shooting in the fourth quarter and pulled to within three points on three separate occasions. Poyen hit five free throws in the final 3:30 to stay ahead of Bismarck, eventually sealing the win. Payton Anderson led Poyen with 18 points and four steals. She also pulled down five rebounds.

Ellie Sutterfiel­d scored 16 points, finishing 6-9 at the foul line. She also had four rebounds and a steal. Jossie Hughes added four points to go along with a game-high seven rebounds. Kadience Freeman scored three points, Analyn Pacheco had two points and Josie Austin chipped in with one point.for Bismarck, Hannah Collie led the way with 18 points and four steals to go along with three rebounds. Victoria Lingo and Kady Pleasants both added eight points.

Pleasants had a team-high five rebounds. Natalie Metcalf scored three points and Alivia Gordon had two points and five rebounds.

In the senior boys game, the Lions led by four points at the half and put the game away by outscoring Poyen 17-5 in the third quarter.

Blake Smith led Bismarck with 13 points. Carson House scored nine points and had two rebounds, Beau Wesson added seven points and five rebounds, Kalem Rorie had five points, both Ian Smith and Riley Tottle scored three points and Wayne Porterfiel­d chipped in with two points.

Poyen’s Grayson Graves led all scorers with 17 points to go along with five rebounds.parker Beard had six points, Dayden Jones scored four points, Brayden Hull had three points and game-highs in rebounds (eight) and blocks (three) and Dylan Spurlin scored two points.
