MAGNET COVE JR.PANTHERS BASKETBALL

MAGNET COVE — The Magnet Cove Jr. Panthers presented a competitiv­e challenge on their home court Tuesday while hosting the Dierks Jr. Outlaws for junior high basketball action at the Magnet Cove Gymnasium.

The Jr. Panthers displayed several key productive highlights in their execution, but the visiting Jr. Outlaws came away victorious for the 35-31 road victory in Magnet Cove. After a 10-10 knot from first quarter action, the Jr. Panthers outscored Dierks 7-5 in the second quarter.

At halftime, the Jr. Panthers led the Jr. Outlaws 17-15. With a two-point edge coming out of the locker room at the break, the Jr. Panthers maintained their momentum and held a 26-24 lead at the end of third quarter action.

In the fourth, the Jr. Outlaws began the quarter with a needed three-point play the old fashion way and took a 27-26 lead at the 5:39 mark. From that point, the Jr. Outlaws never looked back and extended their margin to a 33-26 advantage with 1:25 remaining in the game. The Jr. Panthers finally broke their scoring drought in the period with Hunter Woods swishing a triple from beyond the arc to cut their deficit and trailing Dierks 33-29 with 34 seconds left. In the final 30 seconds of play, Dierks chipped away to add to their lead from the charity stripe and sank two freethrows—meanwhile Woods scored the final bucket for Magnet Cove.

For the game, Jr. Panthers’ Bronson Coolis and Wilson Ballentine led the scoring department with eight points apiece. Woods followed with seven points which five of those were scored in the fourth quarter. Hunter Browning added four points, and Aaron Holland chipped in two points. Coolis drilled two triples while Woods and Ballentine each nailed a triple from downtown beyond the arc.

The Jr. Panthers are scheduled to return to home hoops January 13 hosting Maumelle Charter at Magnet Cove Gymnasium.
