Lions, Jr. Lions sweep wins at HHG

HASKELL — After providing a productive second half of key production, the Bismarck Lions and Jr. Lions successful­ly prevailed on the road Friday against Haskell Harmony Grove during senior and junior basketball competitio­n for conference play.

Jr. Lions 31, HHG Jr. Cardinals 21

In junior high hoops, the Jr. Lions pulled away victorious with a 10-point win over the Jr. Cardinals, 31-21. The Jr. Lions held a 11-6 led at halftime against the Jr. Cardinals. In the second half, Bismarck combined for 20 points to outscore HHG with 15 points for third and fourth quarter scoring. For the game, Jr. Lions’ Preston Hughes led the way with 10 points for double-figures. Ben Keithley added eight points, Noah Smith finished with six points, Lucas Chapman had four points and Caed Keithley chipped in three points.

Lions 45, HHG Cardinals 36

The nightcap featured the senior high boys match-up. The Lions came out with the early momentum to post a double-digit first quarter spark to lead the Cardinals 12-4. After the Lions added eight points scored in the second, and defensivel­y held HHG to only three points, Bismarck headed into the locker room with a 20-7 halftime lead over the Cardinals.

In the second half, the Lions accounted for 25 points despite the Cardinals pouring 29 points on the scoreboard for third and fourth quarter scoring combined. As a result, the Lions went on to a nine-point win in their conference matchup. For the game, Lions’ Beau Wesson led the scoring department with 16 points and grabbed three rebounds. Blake Smith finished with 12 points, three rebounds, three steals and dished out five assists— while Ian Smith dropped 11 points with three rebounds for a triple Lion threat of double-figures.

Collin Parrie scored four points and snatched three rebounds, Wayne Porterfiel­d scored two points with two rebounds, five steals and had two assists—carson House also finished with two points.
