Glen Rose School District
Over the past year, Glen Rose School District has renovated and updated buildings and continues to make strides in providing the best education to its students. The district plans on continuing this process through 2023. Glen Rose School District follows guidelines set forth by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Arkansas Department of Health to help keep our students, faculty, and staff safe each day. All schools in our district offer community and school based counseling to support the mental health of our students and families.
In the summer of 2021, the district made updates to the elementary school. Improvements include upgrading the heating and cooling units to be more efficient and other suggested improvements were completed. The kindergarten building will undergo renovations and improvements during the summer of 2022.
Glen Rose Elementary School purchased new Chromebooks and Promethean boards in each classroom thanks to Title I and other federal funds to help improve student achievement. Every student is able to work from their own Chromebook in class.
GRES is also working on implementing the PLC (Professional Learning Community) process and making changes to specific curriculum. The RTI (Response To Intervention) process is being implemented to a greater extent throughout the district to help meet the academic needs of all students. A literacy coach and math coach were added this year to support and strengthen the quality and effectiveness of teachers, principals, and other school leaders working with grades K-6. These improvements will support student learning and outcomes.
GRES offers Gifted and Talented Programming and also archery. Little Rockers is a program where the students can participate in the last mile of the Little Rock Marathon after school each week by walking or running on our school and community walking track. The Glen Rose Youth Association manages sports activities for elementary students in grades 3 and 4 which include football, basketball, and cheerleading. Our students also participated in a fundraiser for St. Jude’s Hospital.
Glen Rose Middle School provides opportunities for students to participate in GT (Gifted and Talented), Chess Club, Robotics, Quiz Bowl, Book Club, FBLA, AGRI/FFA, band, choir, archery, art club (7-8), student council, trap shooting, wrestling, football, and basketball. Glen Rose Middle School’s Student Council facilitates the district’s Angel Tree Program.
GRMS school offers tutoring five days a week and implements the Read 180 and Accelerated Reader programs. Each classroom and library have received new Promethean boards this year. Additional curriculum components include: IXL, STAR Reading and Math, Stemscope, and Tynker.
Glen Rose High School offers a wide variety of college and career classes and opportunities. Our students may attend the new Saline County Career and Technical Center or ASU Three Rivers to gain hands-on, practical experiences within a field of interest to determine if a specific career is right for them. Students may also earn college credit and industry certifications through these institutions. GRHS also offers a variety of college classes through Southern Arkansas University and ASU Three Rivers such as Composition I and II, College World History I and II, College Algebra, and College Trigonometry. We also offer a variety of advanced placement courses. Tutoring services are available at the high school and each classroom and library have received a new Promethean board this year.
