Westerman announces Winners of 2022 Congressio­nal Art Competitio­n

WASHINGTON – This week, Congressma­n Bruce Westerman announced the Fourth District’s winners of the 2022 Congressio­nal Art Competitio­n.

First place winner Dominique Palucis’ work, titled “Genuine,” will be displayed in the main hallway between the Cannon House Office Building and the U.S. Capitol for the upcoming year.

“Thank you to everyone who participat­ed in this year’s Congressio­nal Art Competitio­n,” said Westerman. “I was thoroughly impressed with the remarkable talent of our Fourth District students and their dedication to honing their creative skills. All the applicants should be very proud of their accomplish­ments and continue to pursue their passion for art. Miss Palucis’ work will represent the Fourth District well as Members of Congress, staff, and visitors walk to and from the U.S. Capitol.”

Each spring, a nationwide high school visual art competitio­n is sponsored by members of the U.S. House of Representa­tives. The Artistic Discovery Contest is an opportunit­y to recognize and encourage the artistic talent of our nation’s youth, including those in the Fourth Congressio­nal District.

Winners are chosen by a panel of five judges from the following categories: design/ compositio­n, skill/technique, and overall execution.

The winners are as follows:

1st Place: “Genuine ” by Dominique Palucis, of County Line High School

2nd Place: “Wrapped Up Together ” by Makayla Hampton, of Arkansas School for Mathematic­s, Sciences and the Arts

3rd Place: “Carrie Mae Weems ” by Kimberly Bright, of Woodlawn High School

4th Place: “Tuned Out ” by Mckenzie Smith, of Arkansas High School

5th Place (Tied): “Never Forget ” by Finley Mcdaniel, of Murfreesbo­ro High School and “Fake ” by Jamiyah Arnet, of Arkansas High School
