GLEN ROSE — The “Mighty” Glen Rose Beavers made plays on the diamond in their final performance in conference baseball competition against Genoa Central at the Glen Rose Sports Complex. Glen Rose fell short to the Dragons 143. On senior night, Beaver seniors’ Tagg Haynes and Cohen Carter sparked with productive execution from their opportunities in the frame. Haynes wen t 1-for-2, walked and scored a run while Carter walked twice to make it on base. Glen Rose tallied three runs on two hits while the Dragons racked up 14 runs on five hits to edge off the Beavers in their final match-up in league baseball competition. On the mound, Draven Mcspadden struck out five batters and Dossen Jackson threw some heat across the plate and struck out a batter.
Glen Rose baseball head coach Joe Lewallen felt the Beavers competed and made the contest intense for a competitive showdown through the fourth inning. The Dragons’ 10 run inning in the top of the fifth was the difference and the Beavers fell short to rally back from their deficit.
“We were in the game until the fifth inning where we gave up 10 runs, five walks and one error,” Lewallen said.
The Beavers performed productively throughout the 2022 season and Lewallen noted how much of an improvement they made as a unit.
“The team improved from last year and are continuing to learn the game. We have to continue to cut down on physical and mental errors—this group that is returning could be one of the best teams that Glen Rose has had if they can eliminate errors,” Lewallen said.
