Trust In Name Of The Lord

- Troy Conrad Guest Columnist

God never sends a burden to weigh us down without offering his arms to lift us up.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”mat.11:28

Whatever happened to miracles?

Have you ever asked yourself that?

When we read the New Testament we see all kinds of miracles.

When we study history we hear about all kinds of miracles.

Even today, we hear about miracles that always seem to happen to other people.

I think the biggest reason we never see miracles is that we don’t expect them to happen to us. And yet they do.

Every single day. We just ten to explain them away.

Two hundred years ago, it was considered a miracle to see the flowers bloom. Now we know all about photosynthesis and pollination.

One hundred and fifty years ago, it was a miracle that someone survived a surgery. Now we know all about bacteria and viruses and disinfectants.

A hundred years ago people died at young ages from “consumption.” Now we know all about the dangers of smoking and ultraviolet radiation.

Fifty years ago, it was a miracle to have water running upstream.

Now we have indoor plumbing and sewage ponds.

When a girl and a boy meet, marry, and live happily ever after we call it “fate.”

When you run into an old friend from your childhood fifty years ago we call it coincidence.

When someone is sick and recovers over a period of time call it a natural consequence of surgery and medication.

We have fate, coincidence, luck, and natural consequences. Everything but a miracle.

Sometimes in our desire to understand the world around us and why things happen to us we have a tendency to explain away the miracles that occur.

Call it what you want. But when you are in need, God is there to answer your prayer. It may be a miracle.

Or a coincidence.

Or fate or maybe just a little bit of luck. But in all cases know that God is with you and ready and willing to take over the heavy lifting or whatever burden you may be carrying. Let us pray.

Our God of miracles. Prepare our hearts and spirits to be changed according to Your Divine Will.

Let us know your love and grace.

Let us see the miracle of your son Jesus and let us feel the presence of your Holy Spirit. This we pray in the name of the One who is our foundation: Jesus Christ.
