15-0: Jr. Lady Indians extend unbeaten season,

Survive in close rivalry match-up against rival Jr. Lady Panthers, 36-32 Barrett, Murphy spark Poyen in huge conference road victory against tough PPRD play

MAGNET COVE — The hot streak of perfection was on the line Tuesday at the Magnet Cove Gymnasium as the visiting unbeaten Poyen Jr. Lady Indians survived the scare against their arch-rival Magnet Cove Jr. Lady Panthers 36-32 in their conference match-up for junior high girls basketball competitio­n.

The standout play of Poyen’s hoopsters Kenady Barrett with Gannyn Murphy propelled the Jr. Lady Indians its four-point road win. Barrett ignited the overall star performanc­e as the game’s high-scorer with 12 points while Murphy poured in 10 as the only two hoopsters posting in double-figures. The Jr. Lady Indians’ victory improved their overall record to 15-0 thus far into the season.

The Jr. Lady Panthers fed off the PPRD impact to keep the contest close, but came up short once again this season to their rival Poyen. Both of these exciting ball teams faced off early this season in the championsh­ip game of the 2022 Poyen Jr. High Invitation­al Tournament at the Jerry and Ouida Newton Arena back on December 10, 2022. Poyen edged off the Jr. Lady Panthers 42-37 in their first classic match-up on the hardwood.

Magnet Cove’s Madison Schlosser led scoring with nine points, Mailyn Tanaka followed with six points, Taysia Buckley added five points, Kori Dawson and Stori Green each contribute­d four points apiece—bailey Ramthun had two points, Tayla Tanaka and Braelyn Mcentire each chipped in a point from the charity stripe in Tuesday’s encounter against Poyen.

UP NEXT

Tonight, the Jr. Lady Panthers return to rivalry hoops on the road against Ouachita, while the undefeated Jr. Lady Indians are scheduled for conference hoops Tuesday, January 24 against England.
