FOUKE — The championship game in the 3A-7 Senior High Girls District Basketball Tournament Saturday featured the trilogy showcase match-up between the No. 2 seed Glen Rose Lady Beavers facing off against No. 1 seed Fouke Lady Panthers facing off in a third meeting for the season.

The Lady Beavers looked to overcome the home-court advantage in Fouke, but the top-seeded Lady Panthers prevailed 44-33 in the district tournament finals.

The Lady Beavers’ standout hoopster Ashlee Stafford led the way with 15 points to post in double-figures against Fouke. Sydney Riggan followed up with a dandy nine points and Maci Carver added five points while Makayla Stevens and Zavery May each contributed two points apiece in the championship game at district Saturday in Fouke.

The Lady Beavers claimed the 3A-7 Conference and District Tournament Runner-up titles to journey back to Hot Spring County with some trophy hardware under the direction of first year senior high girls basketball coach Devin Jones.

The Lady Beavers finished the regular season with a 21-7 overall record—marking a 20 plus win season for Jones during his debut season taking over the senior high girls basketball program. Jones has been excited about this opportunity and working with a talented and fun group of lady hoopsters for the 2022-23 basketball season.

“This season has been exciting and a lot of fun,” Jones said. “I’ve absolutely loved it and the girls have played unbelievably hard—i’m really proud of how the season has been,” Jones said.

The Lady Beavers battled tough during their championship run during district tournament hoops.

Even though the Lady Beavers came up short in the finals, they’re looking forward to representing the area in the 3A-4 Regional Tournament this week hosted at Drew Central High School in Monticello.

The Lady Beavers earned the No. 2 seed from the 3A-7 Conference and will play regional host team and No. 3 seed Drew Central Lady Pirates in the opening round Thursday, February 23.

Jones anticipates this matchup to be a tough state tournament round qualifier for his Lady Beavers to overcome the homecourt advantage in Monticello Thursday. But, overall, the Lady Beavers have been impressive all season and the senior leadership fuels the confidence for the team to continue their year in hoops for a strong postseason run.

“Drew Central will be tough—they’re tall and extremely athletic,” Jones said. “We’ve got to rebound and play very physically,” Jones said.

The Lady Beavers have been able to secure several key victories this season and Jones believes his team will be ready for the challenge Thursday.

The 3A-4 Regional Tournament is scheduled, February 2225 hosted at Drew Central High School in Monticello.
