Glen Rose wrestling trio captures champion honors as top seeds at regional tourney

LONOKE — The stout trio wrestling force of Glen Rose Beaver wrestlers Cameron Graham, Lakoda Caldwell and Brayden Phillips excelled as No. 1 seeds reign as 4A South Regional Champions from winning their weight class Saturday in the 4A South Boys Regional High School Wrestling Tournament in Lonoke.

Head coach Doug Mcguire mentioned all three of his wrestlers pinned their way through during competitio­n with one medical forfeit in the finals in the tournament in Lonoke.

Now, these three tough forces on the mat are turning their attention to compete in the 15th Annual Arkansas Activities Associatio­n Sanctioned Centennial Bank State High School Wrestling Tournament at the Jack Stephens Center on the University of Arkansas at Little Rock campus in Little Rock. The state wrestling tournament is scheduled Friday and Saturday February 24-25.

Mcguire hopes many wrestling fans from the area can make it to Little Rock to help support this stout wrestling trio to finish as state champions.

The Glen Rose wrestling program aims to continue their streak of having a state champion which would make it the sixth year in a row for 2022-23.

At the state wrestling championsh­ips, the top four wrestlers receive medals in each weight class—champion and runner-up trophies.

Mcguire noted, “The state tournament will be this Friday and Saturday at the Jack Stephens Center UALR—THEY will need lots of fans in the stands to push through the state finals. Championsh­ip rounds start at 3 p.m. Saturday.
