County Clerk Patty Griggs

- Special to the MDR

Patty Griggs is the newly elected Clerk for Hot Spring County, a seat vacated by Sandy Boyette at the end of 2022 after her many dedicated and successful years fulfilling the role.

The complete duties of the County Clerk are best stated on the county’s official website:

“The County Clerk handles voter registration, (both absentee and early voting), marriage licensing, accounts payable, and payroll for the Courthouse. The County Clerk’s office also handles Quorum Court Ordinances, Resolutions, and Minutes of Meetings.

“The County Clerk’s office houses the County Court Records, Annexations, Articles of Incorporation, Levy of taxes, Board appointments, bonds, improvement districts, right of way acquisition, contracts, and agreements signed by the County Judge. This office also holds the administrative details for the County Board of Election Commissioners. The County Clerk’s office has information on the Board of Equalization and the financial information of the entire County government. They also hold the budgets for each department of the county.”

Griggs easily transitioned into the County Clerk position because she spent many years working closely with Boyette in the same office, as payroll manager for the various departments within the Courthouse and the municipal system.

Griggs was born in Little Rock and lived in Tampa, Fla., until she was 10 years old, when her family moved back to Arkansas and settled in the Benton area. She graduated high school in Benton but would make her way to Malvern while searching for a great job with even better benefits.

“I interviewed for a job at the bank in Malvern--at that time it was Horizon Bank, which is now U.S. Bank--when my son was two years old,” Griggs said. Her husband was dealing with a rare disease and a temporary loss of employment at the time, and Patty made it her mission to find a job that offered comprehensive health insurance for her family.

Griggs had prior banking experience and served Horizon well but would transition to serving the county in 2011 when she got a part-time job as the HSC Election Coordinator, which turned into a fulltime role that she would perform for seven years before transitioning into a more direct role within the municipal system.

“I always knew that I wanted to run for office, so I wanted to get in the Courthouse,” Griggs said. “So, I transferred in as the payroll clerk in 2019.”

Griggs takes her job seriously but approaches it with expert ease and decades of relevant experience.

“I love working for the people of the county, and to make it a better place to live,” Griggs said. “That’s my goal.”

She has two adult children she adores, a daughter who lives in Northwest Arkansas, and a son who resides in Lonsdale. Griggs makes it a priority to visit her beloved grand-babies in the northwest part of the state every month. She also enjoys crafts such as painting, sewing, and decorating in her spare time.

Griggs gained a good grasp on the duties and expectations of the County Clerk position long before she decided to run for office. She is skilled at the duties, passionate about the job, and grateful for her blessings.

“I love my job,” she said. “It’s the first time I’ve had a job that I really enjoyed going to work every day.”

Griggs’s wealth of experience, genuine enthusiasm, and commitment to the role offers strong assurance that Hot Spring County Clerk business will continue to be in very capable hands.
