Simplewill, Arkansas Bar Association Team to Provide “Wills for Heroes”
First responders get help with estate planning from Bar Association volunteer attorneys
LITTLE ROCK - Online estate planning platform Simplewill and the Young Lawyers Section of the Arkansas Bar Association are partnering to provide “Wills for Heroes,” a virtual event on Saturday, April 1.
The goal of Wills for Heroes is to provide simple estate planning documents and basic end-of-life legal documents free of charge to first-responders in Arkansas. Police officers, firefighters, emergency health care workers and their spouses and partners are invited to participate.
Attorneys from the Arkansas Bar Association will use Simplewill’s user-friendly online tool to sign up Arkansas first-responders allowing for the creation of estate planning documents such as a last will and testament, living will, and powers of attorney for health care and financial matters. Through the platform, attorneys will volunteer their time to conduct a virtual client meeting to discuss the individual needs of each first-responder and their families.
“This group of men and women put their lives on the line to protect our communities, so Simplewill and the Arkansas Bar Association wanted to find a way to pay them back,” said Patrick Murphy, attorney and Simplewill co-founder. “Estate planning helps protect our family and loved ones, but studies have shown too few people have taken the time to do it, mostly due to concerns about price and a long or complicated process. The Wills for Heroes initiative will take advantage of Simplewill’s easy, threestep system to connect first responders with the legal expertise they need to quickly create and review estate planning documents at no charge.”
“We are thrilled to help provide this critical support for our first responders,” said William Ogles, chair of the Young Lawyers Section of the Arkansas Bar Association. “While estate planning is an important process for everyone, it is of the upmost importance for those individuals who courageously engage in dangerous activities on a daily basis. We hope this event will provide valuable peace of mind for all our of local heroes and their families.”
