Lady Panthers battle tough competition in D-mac tourney play
HOPE — The Magnet Cove Lady Panthers put together a strong run of execution on the diamond during tournament play this past weekend in Hope, but came up short of wins against Genoa Central and Nashville for their first taste of defeat thus far into the 2023 softball season.
The Lady Panthers battled two tough opponents while competing in the 2023 Debra Mcmaster Memorial Scholarship Softball Tournament hosted by Spring Hill Lady Bears softball program.
MAGNET COVE LADY PANTHERS 2 NASHVILLE LADY SCRAPPERETTES JV 5
The Lady Panthers squared off against the Nashville Lady Scrapperettes JV squad. In four innings of action on the diamond, Nashville defeated Magnet Cove 5-2. The Lady Scrapperettes maintained a 4-0 lead through the third inning. In the fourth, Nashville added a run to take a 5-0. The Lady Panthers rallied back to score two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Nashville pulled through for the victory. Nashville tallied five runs on six hits while the Lady Panthers sparked for two runs on three hits. The trio of Alexa Gangoso, Hadley Herrington, and Izzy Sawyer led the offense for Magnet Cove and collected a hit apiece in the frame. Herrington drove in a run for an RBI, while Kynsli Brashears and Bella Harville each scored a run apiece.
Harville and Braelyn Mcentire each worked in the pitcher’s circle. Harville pitched three innings, allowed five hits, four earned runs, struck out six batters and threw 43 strikes across the plate. Mcentire pitched one inning, allowed one hit, one earned run and struck out two batters and threw 10 strikes to ignite the strike zone against Nashville.

In another challenging matchup, the Lady Panthers fell short to Genoa Central 5-0. Despite the shutout defeat, the Lady Panthers held Genoa scoreless in the fifth inning, with only one run scored in the first, third and fourth innings. The Lady Dragons’ biggest inning came in the second to score two runs. The Magnet Cove’s defense did limit the Lady Dragons from a high-scoring affair but Genoa’s defense took over to keep the Lady Panthers scoreless.
Genoa tallied five runs on 10 hits with two errors. The Lady Panthers fell short in their offensive execution with no runs, no hits but went errorless.
In the pitcher’s circle, the Lady Panthers’ ace pitcher [Bella] Harville pitched five innings, allowed 10 hits, five earned runs and struck out two batters and threw 51 strikes across the plate.
