Weekly Weather Fact: According to the Beaufort Wind Scale, which was developed for sailers in 1805 by Britain’s Admiral Sir Francis Beaufort, a wind blowing from 4 to 31 mph is a considered a “breeze” while a wind blowing from 32 to 63 miles per hour is officially classified as a “gale.”
Summary: A warmer active weather system has moved in following a frosty October weekend, and the forecast is calling for more precipitation and strong breezes in the Eastern Sierra.
According to meteorologists from the National Weather Service, temperatures will remain 4 - 8 degrees above average Thursday through Friday, before settling back down. More average seasonal temperatures are expect throughout this weekend and early next week. Stronger winds, especially along mountain ridges, are likely to move in on Saturday and persist through next week.
While a moderate chance of rain showers will be possible through the weekend, snow levels will remain high and generally above 8,000-9,000 feet in elevation. There are indications that this active storm pattern could continue into early next week with more cooler systems on the way.
