“ICE” Friday at the CRC

-

Last Friday, Nov. 24, the Town of Mammoth Lakes officially unveiled the new Community Recreation Center at Mammoth Creek Park. Over 500 people showed up to celebrate and try out the skating rink with Mammoth Mountain mascot Woolly and June Mountain mascot Bucky on “ICE” Friday. Outside the 40,000 sq. ft. Community Recreation Center and under the Measure R inflatable arch, Mammoth Lakes Mayor Pro-tem, Bill Sauser and ex-parks and Recreation Commission Chair, Betsy Temple Truax cut the ceremonial ribbon and officially opened the facility to the public. According to the Town, Mayor Pro-tem Sauser and Betsy Temple Truax have been championing this project for the past decade and never stopped pushing hard for a facility that the entire community would be proud to call their own. Also in attendance was Councilmember Amanda Rice, Councilmember Sarah Rea, Planning and Economic Development Commission, Vice Chair Jen Burrows, and Parks and Recreation Commissioner Greg Newbry. The Town would also like to thank Lynda Salcido Mono County District 5 Supervisor and MUSD board member Lou Stewart, Mammoth Lakes Recreation Board President Craig Albright, and MLR board members Heather Schaubmayer, Tamara Bankson and Eric Wasserman for joining the celebration. Also participating in the ceremonies were Kim Anaclerio, MLR Program Director, John Urdi, Executive Director of Mammoth Lakes Tourism and the hundreds of community members, recreation advocates, valued CRC sponsors, Town staff and Mammoth Lakes Youth Hockey players. The Mammoth Parks & Recreation Community Recreation Center is a Sprung Performance Arena enclosing the brand new LA Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes (Mammoth Lakes Ice). The CRC will be open and available to the public year-round, with LA Kings Ice operating annually each winter season between the months of October and April. During the summer months, the rink will be transformed into the Mammoth Reczone, a 3-court gymnasium, serving as the hub for the expanding Parks and Recreation Department’s summer camps and programs, as well as a multitude of court sports, events and activities for residents and visitors to Mammoth Lakes.
