Removing statues does not solve racism

-

I am writing about the proposal to remove statues honoring figures who exhibited racist behavior in the distant past. Destroying history by the destruction of statues representing the good and bad of the past is not the answer.

When Nazi German burned books before and during World War II, similar to when the Taliban destroyed over 2,500 Bamiyan Buddhas statues in 2001, the world was in shock. There is no difference between what Nazi Germany and the Taliban did by destroying symbols of history then what is happening now.

Racism will not disappear by erasing history. Racism will disappear by education, by family values, by equality and, unfortunately, by time. The youth of the world will be the solution by their exposure to history, not by destroying history.
