Division in this country appears to be here to stay

- — Thomas A. Tucker, San Rafael

Dick Spotswood’s heart is in the right place, but I believe the recent commentary by the IJ’s political columnist shows a leftist bias (“Americans must recognize cultural divide, address it,” Dec. 30). His clear belief that “the left” is right and “the right” is wrong regarding what I believe was election fraud is obvious.

There is plenty of data supporting vote manipulation.

Just because the party line is that the 2020 presidential election was the most honest in history does not make it so. Each side is entitled to its position. I see fraud and you don’t. I believe we may have irreconcilable differences.

Now, after every dirty and unsubstantiated attack against President Donald Trump, some ask for unity. For four years, Trump supporters were shown only hate and made-up allegations in a misguided quest to overturn a legitimate election and throw out an elected president. Spotswood and others need to realize that it is a two-way street. Now that “your guy” is in, you are asking for unity. Where was that desire during the last four years?

The sad truth is that neither side will be happy with the other.

Now President-elect Joe Biden and cohorts will spend their time on destroying “all things Trump.” And rather than spending money on our own people, they will give billions to countries that hate us.

So, we still have a divided country. Spotswood quoted the Founding Fathers when he wrote, “united we stand, divided we fall.” I say that this is a case of “divided we fall” and there is no way around it.
