Breach of Capitol a step toward a new civil war

-

I am sad to say on the sixth day of this new year, Chapter 2 of the Civil War is now unfolding before us.

Inside the Congress, senators and representatives were debating whether to undo the results of Joe Biden’s election to the presidency. Meanwhile, a large terrifying mob of proTrump supporters breached the police lines of the Capitol. They unlawfully stormed onto the steps of the Congress while hundreds of others broke into the building itself to spread fear and violence while confronting the overrun police inside.

Some leaders of Congress had to be evacuated and others were in lockdown.

These protesters were encouraged and emboldened by the vicious, hateful lies of our racist, authoritarian, sociopathic lame duck president. The South lost the Civil War but the ultimate outcome of the war is still in doubt as is the fate of our fragile democracy.

This is insurrection, this is sedition, this is an outright coup attempt against our democracy orchestrated by President Donald Trump. I pray for the safety of President- elect Biden and Vice President- elect Kamala Harris that they may be protected from this madness.

Let me be clear. Had this been a contingent of Black people peacefully and justifiably protesting racism in this country, they probably would have been arrested or worse. That is the state of play in our country and tells you all you need to know about the reality of structural-systemic racism. It is baked into the DNA of our country with its racist legacy of genocide and slavery.
