Affidavit: Man found Woods unconscious after SUV crash

-

Tiger Woods was unconscious in a mangled SUV after he crashed the vehicle in Southern California last week, according to a court document that also revealed a nearby resident and not a sheriff’s deputy was first on the scene.

The witness, who lives near the accident scene in Rolling Hills Estates just outside Los Angeles, heard the crash and walked to the SUV, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Johann Schloegl wrote in the affidavit.

The man told deputies that Woods had lost consciousness and did not respond to his questions.

The first deputy, Carlos Gonzalez, arrived minutes later the morning of Feb. 23 and has said Woods appeared to be in shock but was conscious and able to answer basic questions. Woods suffered severe injuries to his right leg and cuts to his face. Woods told deputies — both at the wreckage and later at the hospital — that he did not know how the crash occurred and didn’t remember driving, according to the affidavit.

The document was filed Tuesday in Los Angeles

County Superior Court as part of a statement of probable cause requesting that a search warrant be approved for the 2021 Genesis GV80 SUV’s data recorder, known as a black box. Schloegl requested data from Feb. 22 and Feb. 23.

CONNERS BUILDS 1-SHOT LEAD AT BAY HILL » Corey Conners spent more time grinding out pars than chasing birdies, and that proved to be the right recipe at the Arnold Palmer Invitational as Bay Hill began to bake under a warm sun. Conners surged into

the lead with a 25-foot eagle putt on the par-5 16th hole — his second eagle on that hole in two days — for a 3-under 69 and a one-shot advantage over former Bay Hill winner Martin Laird (67).

TEN ATHLETES FILE CLAIMS AT SJSU FOR SEXUAL ABUSE

Ten former San Jose State athletes have filed tort claims with the California State University system as part of an expanding sexual abuse case involving a trainer and school officials’ handling of the allegations.

The claimants, whose names were redacted in the documents obtained by the Bay Area News Group, allege they were victims of sexual abuse, harassment, and discrimination.

They filed the torts on Monday, a day before former deputy athletic director Steve O’Brien filed a wrongful termination and retaliation lawsuit in Santa Clara County Superior Court alleging he was fired for trying to preserve the integrity of the internal investigation into the women’s claims of sexual abuse.

Washington released AP Comeback Player of the Year Alex Smith on Friday, a move that was expected but still provides a cold ending to the veteran quarterback’s storybook tenure with the organization.

Smith’s release clears just under $15 million in salary cap space for Washington, which is hoping to figure out its long-term QB situation and fill many holes in the aftermath of a 7-9 season, NFC East title and wild-card round loss. Coach Ron Rivera said he met with Smith this week, each side figured it was best to move on, and the organization granted Smith’s request to be released.

Smith made a triumphant return to NFL action last season, two years after breaking two bones in his right leg and requiring 17 surgeries to repair it. His battle against a life-threatening infection and long rehab process to get back on the field became a documentary and an inspirational tale whether he played again or not. And, of course, he did play again. RAIDERS WILL RELEASE RICHIE INCOGNITO, BUT FOR HOW LONG? » Richie Incognito, the veteran left guard who got a career re-start

with the Raiders, will be released in advance of the start of the new league year. The question is whether he’ll get another re-start with the Raiders down the line.

Incognito’s pending release was first reported by NFL Media and confimred by a team source. The Raiders are reportedly also releasing starting right guard Gabe Jackson but have yet to confirm his departure or file the transaction with the NFL.

By releasing Incognito, the Raiders will clear another $5 million in salary from the books. It’s conceivable he can return once the dust settles during free agency and the draft.

as an NFL official,” Chaka said. “But this moment is bigger than a personal accomplishment. It is an accomplishment for all women, my community, and my culture.”
