Pro-gas council members won’t get vote next time
Once more, the Novato City Council has gone for the money.
Voting for the Costco gas station is a slap in the face to most of the city. These council members take pride in being sustainability leaders so much that, just last November, they supposedly made fighting climate change a priority for the city. I guess that only includes spending money on new police cars. Apparently it’s not about air pollution, traffic congestion and putting longtime local gas stations in a precarious position. I have no problem with the new police cars or with Costco, which I believe has gone out of its way to make a bad situation better.
Some people are giving up their Costco memberships. That’s foolish — Costco officials are not “the bad guys” in this scenario. I’m a member and, when in an area where it’s convenient, I do buy Costco gas. It is a reputable company which treats employees fairly and has always done right by me.
The problem is our council members. They are always speaking out of both sides of their mouths. Yes, there’s a big debt, just like the whole country is in debt. But they can’t call themselves “sustainable” while approving a huge, unnecessary gas station on bay landfill.
Instead of giving up Costco memberships, which only costs the individual money, remember who voted to protect our city and our long-time gas station owners, as well as our bay and vote for those people in the next election.
I always watch how people vote from the ground up and
I’m sure glad I voted for Councilwoman Amy Peele, the only member to dissent. The rest of them won’t get my vote next time.
As Councilwoman Denise Athas said “I don’t see any evidence not to trust (Costco) in any way.” She’s right, but Costco officials are not the people I’m keeping my eye on.
