Redwood girls tennis gets by Marin Catholic

The Redwood High girls tennis team narrowly defeated host Marin Catholic 4-3 on Wednesday.

The Giants got wins out of three of the four singles positions with No. 1 Georgia Harms defeating Mina Ahmadi, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1; No. 2 Erin Roddy beating Elise Hohenreide­r, 6-2, 6-0; and No. 3 Sonya Cohen taking down Sofia Guerra, 6-2, 6-4. Marin Catholic No. 4 Kate Block got the lone singles win for the Wildcats, beating Pia Ong Bamda 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, 10-4.

In doubles, Marin Catholic took two of three matches from the Giants. No. 1 Katie Miller and Charlotte Hachmann beat Tacquie Kizer and Annesley Krawitt, 7-5, 6-4, while No. 3 Grace Fonkalstru­d and Noemi Jachovics won 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 over Isabella Krauss and Caroline Reidy. Redwood got the win in the No. 2 spot with Sam Glickman and Carys Matthews defeating Emma Taylor and Katie Compagno, 7-5, 6-4.

• San Rafael claimed its first win of the season on Wednesday, beating San Marin 5-2. In singles, the Bulldogs got wins from No. 2 Halle Hirschkop, who defeated Michelle Ferrus, 6-1, 6-1, and No. 3 Jenifer Gonzales, who beat Jordan Antunes-Anderson, 6-2, 7-5. In doubles, No. 1 Brianna Thompson and Hannah Vogel defeated Riley Sheehan and Nithya Sunku, 6-0, 6-2. San Rafael won singles No. 4 and doubles No. 3 by default. San Marin claimed victory in singles No. 1 with an exciting match eventually won by Ava Kaplan in a tiebreaker over Anastasia Klepikova, 7-6, 3-6, 1-0. The Mustangs also won doubles No. 2, with Brisa Stites Sadie Fonarev beating Kayla Solano Sarah Dupree, 6-2, 6-4.

Girls golf

Terra Linda lost to Redwood and beat San Rafael in a tri-match on Monday. Renee Wahbeh of Redwood was a medalist with a 41, while Terra Linda’s Vivian Johnson shot 42 and Ella Reed shot 43 and San Rafael’s Ella Gresez shot a 48.
