Bougie’s big day leads Tam baseball past Drake
Tucker Bougie did it all for the Tam High baseball team in its 8-1 win over Drake on Tuesday. The Cal signee hit two home runs and had three RBIs along with pitching six shutout innings with eight strikeouts. He hit a two-run homer to get Tam on the board in the first and then hit a solo shot in the third to make it 3-0.
Emerson Rabow also hit a solo home run to lead off the sixth inning for Tam, which improved to 3-0 on the season.
• Marin Catholic rode another stellar start from Van Larson to beat Terra Linda 7-1 on Tuesday. Larson struck out 13 and yielded five hits, two walks and a run in six innings on the bump to earn his second win of the season and help the Wildcats improve to 3-1 on the year. Terra Linda falls to 0-3. Greg Schiff was 2 for 3 with an RBI, two runs and a stolen base while Kody Perry was 1 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.
• San Marin scored five runs in the fourth to open its season with a 6-1 win over Branson on Tuesday. Andrew Henderson pitched five innings of onerun ball with six hits and six strikeouts to earn the win. Charlie Abell went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored while Chase McAndrew and Cole Chamberlain each went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Braden Matthews went 2 for 4 at the plate with an RBI to lead the Bulls (2-2), who outhit the Mustangs 7-6 but also committed four errors on the day.
• Sam Rice went 2 for 2 at the plate with a triple and three RBIs to help Redwood top San Rafael 6-3 on Tuesday. The Giants (3-0) scored three runs in the first and then added solo runs in the second, third and seventh innings to keep the pressure on the Bulldogs (1-3). Charlie Welch also went 1 for 4 with an RBI for the Giants. Michael Bender picked up the win on the mound, throwing five innings with four runs, five strikeouts, three runs (two earned) with two walks. Tyler Blair struck out four over the final two innings to get the save.
Prep softball
The Marin Catholic softball team scored three runs in the top of the seventh to down host San Rafael 6-3 on Tuesday. The Wildcats scored all six of their runs from the fifth inning on, giving starter Annabel Teperson enough support to go the distance. The Cal commit struck out 11 and allowed seven hits while walking none in her complete-game outing and was 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and an RBI.
Lauren Osheroff went 2 for 3 with a solo home run in the fifth, Rose Malen went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Kiera DeLacy had a big two-run double in the seventh.
Megan Murphy went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs to pace the Bulldogs, who also got a complete game out of starter Kelsey McNair. McNair struck out eight with eight hits and three walks.
Girls golf
Branson defeated Tam by forfeit on Tuesday at Mill Valley Golf Course. Tam only had three players but the match was still held. Branson shot a 186 as a team and were led by Aimee Wang’s 41 and Sydney Pearson’s 46. Tam got solid rounds out of Sophia Raymond, who shot a 43, and Lola Spendov, who recorded a 46.
Girls tennis
Tam continued its unbeaten 2021 season with a 7-0 win over Terra Linda on Monday. Tam is now 5-0 in MCAL play this year.
The match of the day was in No. 1 singles between Terra Linda’s En-Ya Zhang and Tam’s Jamilah Karah, both ranked as three-star recruits. Karah took the match 6-1, 6-1 but Zhang was the first player this year to take a game from the Tam star this season.
Men’s golf
Dominican’s Matt Fry shot a 9-over-par 84 in the final round of the Academy of Art Invitational at the South Course at Silverado Resort in Napa on Tuesday to finish 13th for the tournament. Fry, competing as an individual, shot a 2-over 74 on the North Course at Silverado in the first round on Monday.
