Susan Kathryn Cullen Bassett died on March 18, 2021 of ALS at the age of 81 in Port Hadlock, WA. She was born December 9, 1939 in Madera, CA to father, Eugene Raymond Cullen and mother, Cora Betty Hughes Cullen.

Raised in San Anselmo, CA, she attended Saint Anselm’s grammar school and graduated from Marin Catholic High School in 1957. She earned her AA degree from College of Marin. In 1985 she received her BS in Nursing from Sonoma State University. She was the very first Mobile Intensive Care nurse in Marin County on April 23, 1986.

Living in Novato for 44 years, Susan worked 12plus years as an ER nurse at Novato Comminity Hospital, followed by various corporate nursing positions. She retired in the 1990s.

Susan’s hobbies included golf, travel, gardening, knitting and quilting. She has always enjoyed cooking and entertaini­ng. Susan was an excellent listener and had a special way of encouragin­g others in their lives.

Susan was a committed member of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Novato. Through the years, she was involved in her children’s 4-H club activities, lead several 4-H projects, and often volunteere­d as the 4-H summer camp nurse.

Susan is survived by John Theodore Bassett, her beloved husband and dearest friend of nearly 60 years; her children; Elizabeth Bassett Williams and husband Jeffrey Wiliams; Theodore Bassett and wife Elaine Marco Bassett; her grandchild­ren Grant Williams and his wife Leah Williams, Eugene Williams and his wife Kristen Williams, Laurel Williams and Patrick Bassett; her greatgrand­children: Levi Williams, Amos Williams, Waylon Williams and Grace Williams; and her sister Betty Cullen Ellis.

A service is planned to honor Susan in June at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea, as well as a private Celebratio­n of Life. Memorial donations in Susan’s honor may be made to the ALS Associatio­n, Evergreen Chapter, www.alsa-ec.org.
