Redwood pulls away in 2nd half to beat San Rafael
Brady Weingart threw multiple touchdowns as the Redwood High football team surged back over .500 in league following a 47-15 road victory against San Rafael on Friday night.
Zach Johnson and Yur Majesty Starbird also accounted for multiple touchdowns for the Giants, who took a 21-7 lead into the half.
Redwood opened the second half with 26 unanswered points before San Rafael scored its second touchdown late in the game to account for the final margin.
Miles Grossman caught a touchdown pass for the Giants and also had an interception.
Branson rolls
George Gale threw five more touchdown passes as the Branson 8-man football team remained unbeaten following a 70-14 home win against John Swett on Saturday.
Gale threw a pair of touchdown passes to Zach Olrich and single touchdowns to Julian Ahern, Alexander Getty and Lucas Segal. Ahern also returned the first punt of the game for a score. Freshman Thomas Lardner also returned a punt for a touchdown.
“We’re 6-0 and we’re now going to be challenged with Stuart Hall and Calistoga the next two weeks then playoffs,” Branson coach Max Pond said. “We’re now going to be a full go going into the strength of our season. Everyone’s
healthy and I like the way we’re playing.”
Callahan Green had a big day defensively, making at least seven solo tackles for the Bulls.
Men’s cross country
Jared Wright took fifth place for Dominican at the PacWest Championships in Hawaii on Saturday, becoming the first Penguin runner to claim first-team all-conference honors in the process.
Wright ran the course in 25 minutes, 21.3 seconds and helped Dominican to its best team finish of sixth, ahead of Hawai’i Pacific, Holy Names and Chaminade.
Women’s cross country
Julianna Mendez placed 17th at the PacWest Championships in Hawaii on Saturday, helping the Penguins place seventh as a team.
Mendez competed despite suffering an injury in last week’s meet and qualified for the third-team allconference with her time of 23:43.
Women’s volleyball
Libero Samantha Brown had a team-high 14 digs as Dominican (1-18, 1-9 PacWest) fell 25-12, 25-23, 2517 against Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday.
Girls tennis
Zoe Manerud picked up the lone win for San Domenico, coming away with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles in a 4-1 loss to Drew on Friday.
