Branson’s Lardner caps season with section title

Branson tennis ace Anna Lardner capped off the season on Tuesday by winning the North Coast Section Division II singles title.

Lardner plowed through her two opponents on the Monday then faced Marin Academy’s Eloise Sent in the semifinals. Lardner won that match as well then faced Berean Christian’s Vivian Galloway in the final.

Larder dropped the first set but rallied to cap an unbeaten season with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Sent placed fourth while her Marin Academy teammate Amelia Thomas bowed out in the quarterfin­als. Terra Linda’s En-Ya Zhang fell in the first round.

Reese Dahlgren and Sophie Liu finished fourth in the D-II doubles bracket.

Redwood’s Annesley Krawitt and Ella Povio fell in the semifinals of the D-I bracket on Tuesday but followed that up with a win to take third place.

Girls volleyball

Jaden Hendrickso­n had a team-high 15 kills as Redwood rallied out of a twoset hole in the NorCal D-II final against top seed Clovis for a 23-25, 20-25, 25-21, 2519, 16-14 victory.

The Giants are headed to the D-II state title game against SoCal to seed Carlsbad at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Santiago Canyon College in Orange.

Redwood put up a big block against Clovis, with Katelyn McKnew piling up six blocks. Kaley Mathews and Emma McDermott had three blocks apiece while Hendrickso­n added two more.

Mathews ran the offense with 36 assists. Kate Giang had nine kills while

Mathews and McKnew had eight each. Libero Sophia Shaw added 14 digs.

Boys water polo

Archie Williams suffered a season-ending loss at the hands of Miramonte in the first round of the NorCal Division I playoffs on Tuesday.

The sixth-seeded Peregrine Falcons fell 13-7 against No. 3 Miramonte, which also defeated Archie Williams 11-7 during a nonleague game last month.

Girls soccer

Phoebe Morf scored twice to lead Archie Williams to a season-opening victory, 3-0 against Ukiah on Tuesday. Maddie Mergenthal­er had the other goal for the Peregrin Falcons.

Golf

Mill Valley’s Niall Shiels Donegan was among the Final

32 in the San Francisco City Men’s Championsh­ip, which wrapped up Sunday at TPC Harding Park.

There were 156 players in the qualifying round with 64 players advancing to match play. Amol Mahal of San Francisco hoisted the champions cup this year.

Robert Fairchild of San Anselmo was the runnerup in the Ray Pelligrini Bracket. Sausalito’s Russell Kessler made an early exit in the George Archer Bracket. Stephen Henricksen of Tiburon competed in the first round of the Men’s Super Senior match play.

Mill Valley’s Barry Soicher and San Rafael’s Kevin Kobalter each picked up a first-round win during Men’s Senior match play. The bracket also included Corte Madera’s Lawrence Alioto and Novato’s Dirk Godsey.
