Locals win girls basketball openers on road

San Domenico opened the girls basketball season with a 42-13 rout of Sonoma Academy in Santa Rosa on Tuesday. Sophomore Summer Jenkins led the Panthers with 18 points and six steals.

Trojans victorious in debut

Terra Linda tipped off the season with a 47-37 victory over host Justin Siena on Tuesday. Bridget Boyle led the Trojans with 12 points, while Nikko Sasaki tallied 11 points. Angela Murray tipped in nine points and Kaitlyn Benson added eight points.

Men’s soccer

Dominican University’s Roberto Garcia and Eddie Silverbrus­h received Second Team All-PacWest Conference honors.

Garcia either led or shared the team-lead in many categories, including games played and started (16), goals (5), points (10), shots (46) and shots on goal (25), while finishing second to Diego Grande with five assists.

Silverbush played defense during the 2021 campaign for the Penguins. The junior brought consistenc­y to the back line, helping Dominican secure three shutouts during the regular season.

Women’s soccer

Dominican University junior Tanya Bills and senior Claire Brown were named Third Team AllPacWest.

Bills tallied four goals and one assist for nine points during the 2021 campaign. She either led the team or shared the team lead in numerous categories, including points (9), goals (4), points per game (0.56), goals per game (0.25), game-winning goals (2) and yellow cards (4).

Brown started in all 12 games she played in this season, accumulati­ng 1,031 minutes of total playing time. The senior helped lead a strong backfield for Dominican, also helping offensivel­y with one assist and 10 total shots, forcing opposing goalkeeper­s to make three saves.

Youth sports

Marin Babe Ruth registrati­on for the Spring 2022 season will open December 1, and continues through March 6. All players in Marin County born on or after May 1, 2006 and before Sept. 1, 2009, are eligible. Tryouts will be held March 12-13. Get details at www.marinbaber­uth.org.
