Marcy L. Hanley

-

Marcy L. Hanley, 63, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her friends and family on February 17, 2022.

Marcy was born in Stockton, CA on May 21, 1958 to the late Beverly and James Hanley. Enjoying her childhood and teenage years in Stockton, Marcy especially loved boating on the Delta with family and friends, spent many years in ballet (we all remember her doing the splits, even in her 60s), and enjoyed sports, particularly racquetball, where she won multiple championships as the top player in the area. Marcy was a good student as well, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1976 and going on to earn a BA in Journalism from San Diego State University. Marcy worked hard and played hard. She loved socializing and was blessed with many close friendships that she treasured all of her life.

After college, Marcy held a position as a marketing representative for Xerox in San Francisco, then she returned to Stockton, working in banking and finance before ultimately moving to the San Rafael area, where she had a successful career at State Farm Insurance for over 25 years. Being bright and a hard worker, she learned quickly and rose to the top, winning many awards, while passing on these skills to the new agents she supervised. She was known for her leadership abilities, and for being detailed and organized, skills that were beneficial in all her endeavors.

Marcy continued the passion her father instilled in her, as an avid boater. Upon moving, she joined the San Rafael Yacht Club and was extremely dedicated, serving twice as Commodore as well as other positions during her 30 years. Like her mother, Marcy also held board positions in PICYA. Marcy worked hard at anything she set her mind to and achieved the coveted status of a U.S. Coast Guard licensed 100-ton Captain in 2013.

Most of all, Marcy was a “people person” and will be remembered as one of the kindest people you could ever meet. She was known as being the life of the party with her vibrant personality and definitive laugh. Her friends were very dear to her and she to them. It was heartwarming to have so many close friends visit her during her last hours.

Marcy is survived by her brother Jim Hanley (Kathy), nephew James and niece Lauren, Melissa Goodman, cousins, godsons Drew and Alex Taylor, and many close friends.

We are eternally thankful for Marcy’s very close friends who were there for her day and night throughout her seven-month fight with Charlie (her nickname for cancer).

A Celebration of Life will be held at San Rafael Yacht Club, 200 Yacht Club Dr., San Rafael, CA 94901 on April 18, 2022 at 4:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the United Way of San Joaquin County, or to a charity of your choice on the same website: https://www.unitedwaysjc.org/.
