Glass scores winner as Redwood rallies for win

Harper Glass scored the tying and winning goals within a span of a minute as Redwood rallied for a 1312 victory over San Ramon Valley on Wednesday in a matchup of premier girls lacrosse teams.

The Giants received superior play from their senior core. Grace Minturn led all scorers with six goals, while Megan Minturn and Coco McCulloch added two each.

The win over San Ramon Valley, one of the topranked teams in the West, as a boost for Redwood as teams look ahead to North Coast Section seeding.

Softball

Marin Catholic’s Rose Malen was solid on the mound as the Wildcats earned a 2-0 victory over Tam on Wednesday. Malen went 6 1/3 innings, as she allowed just three hits while striking out 13 batters to earn the win.

Tam ace Eden Clark also turned in a solid effort, with one strikeout and eight hits allowed in six innings.

Kilee Koch was 2 for 3 one the day, and drove in a run and scored in a two-run fourth inning for the Wildcats. Sammy Horn also had two hits for Marin Catholic.

Jordan Lebsock went 2 for 3 at the plate to lead Tam.

• San Rafael broke through at the plate for a 1-0 victory over Redwood on Wednesday.

Giants ace Sadie Leonard gave up just one run on three hits while striking out 10 batters. Maddie Sofnas and Kaela Sparler each had a hit for Redwood.

Boys tennis

Max Goldman, Pete Stovell and Lucas Metzger gave Branson three singles wins as the Bulls, playing their second match in as many days, defeated Marin Catholic 6-1 Wednesday.

Goldman and Stovell each won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, while Metzger won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

The Wildcats’ Nickawn Nader defeated Luke Tuscher, 6-2, 6-2, at the top of the singles order for Marin Catholic’s only win.

• Tuscher, Chase Hoeveler and Andrew Peng earned singles victories for Branson and the Bulls went on to a 6-1 win over Terra Linda at College of Marin on Tuesday.

Tommie Higgins and Leighton Fraser teamed up at No. 1 doubles for a 6-0, 6-0 victory to help clinch the Bulls’ win.

The Trojans’ Wyatt Dunn picked up a hard-fought win at No. 4 singles over Roshan Belani.

• Jake Magnusson and Sage Brown showed why the deserve to be at the top of the Falcons’ ladder as the swept their singles matches to lead Archie Williams past San Marin, 5-2, on Wednesday.

The Falcons’ top two players in the order won 6-0, 6-0. Henry Pratt and Johan Jacobs won at Nos. 3 and 4 singles for the Falcons.

The Mustangs’ No. 2 duo of Milo Reyes and Cole Shotz won a tiebreaker and the San Marin team of Kole Hockinson and Owen Merritt won at No. 3 doubles.

• Tamalpais returned to the courts after Spring Break for a 7-0 victory over San Rafael on Tuesday.

Tyler Byrne and Luke Bulger lost a total of 3 games at Nos. 1 and 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Asa Moore faced some challenges in the first set but then rolled 6-4, 6-1. Sam Gibson won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

In doubles, Andy Park and Pablo Stuart succeeded 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, and Gabe Schartzman and Mason Dali prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. At No. 3, Canyon Sallady and Sam Zair pulled out a 12-10 tiebreaker to complete the Hawks’ sweep.

Boys golf

Branson had the swing as the Bulls defeated San Marin, 198-215, at Indian Valley on Wednesday. Ryan Herbst led all golfers with a 36, while Noah Duncan was the low medalist for the Mustangs with a 41.

Water polo

The Sharks under-12 coed squad registered the best finish in team history last weekend at the Cal Cup State Championsh­ip, which was held in Marin County for the first time in years.

The Sharks, competing in the under-12 boys division, finished third. The Sharks took two narrow wins the first day of the tournament. A 15-8 loss to the eventual champion on the second day dropped the Sharks into the silver medal match against North Irvine. The Sharks lost 8-5.

The Sharks 14-under boys lost to the San Jose Express, 18-7, in the ninthplace game. The SHAQ girls 12-under team lost to Santa Cruz, 12-6, in their ninthplace game.

Golf

The Rotary Club of Ignacio hosts its annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser Monday, May 16 at the Marin Country Club in Novato. Proceeds support local and internatio­nal service projects.
