Marlene ’Mimi’ Leavenworth

-

My mom, Marlene ’Mimi’ Leavenworth, born Marlene Silcox, died peacefully with family by her side on April 12, 2022. She was born in West Jordan, Utah in 1933 to Roy and Millie Silcox. They moved from Utah to Oakland, California, where in 1953 she met the love of her life, my dad, Edgar (Ted) Leavenworth. They were married in December of 1954, thus beginning their first chapter together, Ted as a career Air Force pilot and Mimi as the supporting, smart, charming, and strong-willed wife.

The military life took us to many places, including: Texas, Alabama, Okinawa, New Hampshire, Nebraska, and finally to retire in Monterey, California. Their next chapter began as they embarked on amazing adventures, first for 10 years in their houseboat with many friends on the Delta, then the next 10 years in their motorhome, criss-crossing the United States, Canada and Mexico, exploring and visiting friends and relatives. Ted and Mimi also traveled on numerous memorable cruises taking them to the Mediterranean, through the Panama Canal, exploring Vancouver and Alaska, and enjoying the Baltic region, just to name a few.

Together they had three wonderful children, Kathryn Melhem (George Olczak) of Pacific Grove, CA, Susan MacAusland (Tom) of San Anselmo, CA, and Scott Leavenworth (Nina) of Monterey, CA. Mimi was blessed with five grandchildren who all adored their Mimi: Ryan MacAusland of Portland, OR, Ross MacAusland (Megan) of Pleasanton, CA, Alexandria Leavenworth of Sacramento, CA, Adam Leavenworth (Ale) of Monterey, CA, and Nicholas Leavenworth of Australia.

She kept her sense humor until the end, departed in peace on terms. I will miss terribly.
