Tam swimmer sets two records

Tam High swimmer Marre Gattner set a pair of school records on Thursday, helping the Red-tailed Hawks boys team defeat Archie Williams, 114-69.

Gattner's record-setting swims came in the 100 butterfly (49.76 seconds) and and the 100 back (50.41). Tam improved to 6-1 on the season, behind only Novato, which capped an undefeated season with wins against Terra Linda and San Rafael. Redwood defeated Marin Catholic, 110-51, to improve to 5-2 on the season.

The Tam girls improved to 7-0 on the season, defeating Archie Williams, 130-48. Redwood and Marin Catholic are also expected to be factors on the girls side. The Giants and Wildcats battled to an 85-85 draw on Thursday, pending the diving results. Redwood is 6-1-1 in league and MC is 5-1-1.

Tam is set to host the MCAL Championsh­ips on April 29 and 30.

College baseball

College of Marin broke open a tie game by scoring five runs in the top of the ninth inning en route to a 9-5 victory against Mendocino on Friday.

Eric Woodrow (Archie Williams) delivered the goahead single to put COM ahead 5-4. Trent Free (St. Vincent, a Novato resident) singled to make it 6-4 before Riley Phelan added a two-run double. Mendocino scored one run in the bottom of the ninth.

Bryant Thornton pitched 5.1 innings of reliefs, allowing three hits and striking out six for the Mariners (19-15, 10-5 Bay Valley Conference).

Prep softball

Kelsey McNair had four hits and scored four runs to lead San Rafael to a 7-1 victory against Montgomery Friday.

Megan Murphy had three hits, Thomara Drummer had two hits and Angel Amesa had one — all three players had two RBIs. Leadoff hitter Sophia Everett had two hits and scored two runs.

Murphy pitched 3.2 innings and struck out seven. McNair pitched the final 3.1 innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.

Boys golf

Redwood and Terra Linda battled to a stalemate, both shooting 211s at StoneTree on Thursday. Redwood won the match on a tiebreaker. TL's Sean Madden was the medalist with a 36. Arjula Aujla and Damien Wabl carded 39s for the Giants.

Boys tennis

Five of the seven matches went to tiebreaker­s as Tam surged to a 7-0 victory against Terra Linda on Wednesday. Carson Harrell outdueled Ryan Hoang at No. 1 singles, picking up a 6-1, 6-7, 10-8 victory.

Asa Moore also won a tiebreaker at No. 3 singles, outlasting Jack Rosenthal. All three doubles matches went to tiebreaker­s.
