Redwood clinches tennis title with win over Tam

The Redwood High boys tennis team rolled off five consecutiv­e victories to secure a 5-2 win against Tam on Thursday, securing the MCAL regular-season title in the process.

Both teams entered with 13-1 records in league and Tam struck first with Tyler Byrne picking up a win at No. 3 singles to give the Red-tailed Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Redwood got hot taking the next matches to put Tam on the brink and clinched the victory when Mateo Cubillos and Chris Lee won at No. 2 doubles.

Redwood got singles wins from Charlie Boyden and Hayden Gerber at Nos. 2 and 4 singles respective­ly.

Tam's Carson Harrell capped the day with a win at No. 1 singles against Liam Carpenter to make it 5-2.

The MCAL tennis playoffs are set to begin on Wednesday, with a play-in, if needed, scheduled for Tuesday. Redwood, Tam and Branson have clinched their spots already. Archie Williams and Marin Catholic entered the day still alive for the fourth and final spot.

• Archie Williams played its final match of the regular season, sweeping the singles matches to secure a 5-2 victory against Novato. Sage Brown, Henry Pratt, Johan Jacobs and Ander Jacobs won at Nos. 1 through 4 singles, respective­ly.

• Terra Linda's Ryan Hoang and Wyatt Dunn were victorious at No. 1 doubles to lead the Trojans to a 5-2 win against San Rafael. Julien Robin and Joseph Zeno picked up singles wins for TL. San Rafael notched wins at one and two singles by Forrest Reily and Luca Caviness.

Girls lacrosse

Novato's season ended on a high note with a 23-14 victory over Terra Linda in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Riley Hovey scored four of her five goals in the first half for the Hornets, while Ava Lawrence finished with four goals and two assists. Hovey had five assists. Maddie Moran also had five goals for Novato, which finished the season 5-5 overall, 4-4 in the MCAL — good enough for fifth place, but not good enough for a MCAL playoff berth.

Nola Gabbard had six goals for Terra Linda (1-9, 0-6 MCAL).

Boys track

Jaspre Suen and Kai Walker were among the winners for Terra Linda — in the 1,600 and 200 meters, respective­ly — as the Trojans secured wins over Novato (56-39 and San Rafael (64-29) on Wednesday.

Noah Van Allen was a double winner for the Hornets, who had a 56-31 win against San Rafael. Van Allen won the 100 (11.5 seconds) and the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches).

Dylan Moore was a double winner for San Rafael in the long jump (19-4) and 400 (53.7).

Girls track

Yasmine Puac and Sydney Bryan combined to win four races and lead Terra Linda to a pair of victories — 83-19 over San Rafael and 70-28 over Novato.

Bryan won both sprints, taking the 100 meters in 13.8 seconds and the 200 in 30.0. Puac won the 800 in 2:40 and the 1,600 in 5:39.

Emerson Erving won twice for Novato, taking the high jump (4-7) and 100 hurdles (19.3). Novato defeated San Rafael, 43-20.

Boys golf

Tam picked up a pair of wins over Terra Linda (183209) and San Rafael (183290), led by Ben Friedman who took medalist honors with an even-par 33. Adam Dali carded a 35 for the Red-tailed Hawks. Sean Madden led Terra Linda with a 35 while Sam Smith paced the Bulldogs with a 48.

• Oliver Vilkin shot a 43 and Parker Rothbart added a 44 to lift Marin Academy to a 182-186 win over Stuart Hall on Thursday at Peacock Gap.

Badminton

San Domenico inched closer to a regular-season title with a 9-0 victory over Drew on Thursday. Cici Lin and Scoot Wang swept the girls singles for the Panthers (9-1), while Stanley Ma and Eric Liu both won their boys singles matches.
