MC girls claim regular-season title in sudden death

Audrey Carr netted the game winner in the late stages of the first suddendeat­h period, lifting the Marin Catholic girls lacrosse team to a 12-11 victory against Redwood Thursday.

Both teams entered the day with unblemishe­d league records. With the victory, MC claims the regular-season title and the top seed in next week's playoffs.

Goalie Noelle Antongiova­nni made 16 saves for MC and Kayla Conroy paced the Wildcats with six goals.

MC (15-2, 8-0 MCAL) trailed 6-3 at the half but leaned on stout defensive performanc­es from Ella Livermore and Mckenzie Gordon to turn the tide. MC also swung the battle with draw controls and ground ball pickups by Carr and Thea Falvey.

Redwood (14-3, 7-1) got four goals apiece from Harper Glass and Megan Minturn. Glass also had eight draw controls.

Both MC and Redwood are set to host MCAL semifinal doublehead­ers on Wednesday. The MC girls face No. 4 San Marin at 4 p.m. while Redwood squares off against No. 3 Tam. On the boys side, topseeded Redwood hosts Novato at 5:30 p.m. while MC takes on No. 3 Tam.

Prep track

The traditiona­l tri-meet between Archie Williams, Redwood and Tam took place on Thursday, with five of the six teams entering the day with perfect league records. When the dust cleared, the Tam boys and Tam girls kept those records intact.

The Tam boys picked up a 79-56 win against Archie Williams and a 77-55 win against Redwood. The girls managed to pull out a 71-65 win against Redwood and defeated Archie Williams, 98-38. Archie Williams defeated Redwood 73-59 on the boys side and Redwood won the girls meeting, 9541.

Drake Miller was a triple winner for the Tam boys, taking the high hurdles, the high jump and the pole vault. Miller almost won the shot put as well, but was bested by teammate Ezra Levy, who threw a leaguelead­ing personal best to secure the win. Tam's Bryan Phillips (long jump, triple jump) and Caden Carney (800, 3,200), plus Archie Williams' Max Henzl (100, discus) were double winners.

Sabine Szylko won both sprints for Tam on the girls side while Hana Field took both the long and triple jumps. Tam's other winners included Brianna McGinnis (1,600), Emma Garnder (800), Ellery Barnes (3,200), Ayla Koch-Bergan (shot put) and Sydnee Sanders (discus). Redwood got wins from Tatum McPeak (400), Sophia Ayaz (30 hurdles) and Ava Burke (pole vault). Archie Williams' Piper Preston won the 100 hurdles.

Boys volleyball

Archie Williams completed an undefeated season in league play to wrap up the top seed for next week's MCAL playoffs. The Peregrine Falcons (19-5, 140) are set to host No. 4 Redwood (8-16, 8-6) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The other semifinal sees No. 3 West County (19-10, 9-5) travel to Mill Valley to face No. 2 Tam (22-4, 12-2). The MCAL championsh­ip game is set for 7 p.m. on Friday.

Boys tennis

The field has been finalized for next week's MCAL playoffs, with Archie Williams securing the fourth seed by virtue of its victory on Thursday. The Peregrine Falcons (10-6) travel to face top-seeded Redwood (15-1) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The other semifinal sees No. 3 Branson (11-4) travel to Mill Valley for a date with No. 2 Tam (13-2).

The final is set for 4 p.m. on Friday at the highest seed. The MCAL singles and doubles tournament is set to take place on Monday and Tuesday at College of Marin.

• San Domenico got wins from Chase Waver, Gavin Kennedy and all three doubles teams to win ifs BCL West quarterfin­als match against Urban Friday. The Panthers advance to the semifinals, which are set for Tuesday.

Prep football

San Marin defensive tackle Nick Tyler committed on Thursday to continue his playing next season for UC Davis. Tyler was part of the San Marin team that went 14-1 and won a state title last season.

Prep baseball

Dom Scafani singled in the winning run in the top of the eighth, lifting Novato to a 2-1 victory against San Rafael Friday.

Jacob Rabb struck out 10 hitters on 113 pitchers in 6.2 innings for the Hornets. Scafani pitched the bottom of the eighth to earn the save.

Jack Healy allowed just four hits and one run in 6.2 innings for San Rafael. James Lamb went 3 for 3 at the plate for the Bulldogs.

Prep softball

San Rafael's Sophia Everett hit a solo home run in the third inning that stood up as the game winner in a 2-1 victory against Tam Friday.

Imogen Cordoba had two hits and drove in the first run of the game to put San Rafael ahead 1-0. Tam's Emmaline Sekura singled in the bottom of the second then stole three bases to tie the game at 1-1.

Kelsey McNair pitched five innings, allowing four hits while striking out seven to earn the win. Eden Clark went the distance for Tam, allowing seven hits and striking out six.

• Addy Dunn hit a grand slam to lead Redwood to a 22-3 rout of El Cerrito on Friday. Dunn drove in five runs and scores twice . Katie Conners had three hits, two RBIs and scored three times for the Giants. Sadie Leonard had three hits at the plate, scored three runs and also struck out eight hitters in three innings of work. Kaela Sparler and Ashley Weingart also had multiple hits and scored multiple runs for Redwood.
