Equitable housing, racial justice are key topics

-

March 22 was a banner day for the Golden Gate Village Resident Council when, at the monthly meeting of the Marin Housing Authority approved the council's “green” plan for revitalization of the public housing complex (which is more than 60 years old) in Marin

City. I would like to give kudos, especially, to Supervisor Stephanie Moulton-Peters for her leadership in making this happen.

As stated in the IJ editorial (“Inclusive step for Golden Gate Village plan leaves important questions,” April 3), there is serious work to be done in several areas to bring the plan to fruition. The Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, composed of Marin's five supervisors and two public members, will play a significant role in this.

With the retirement of District 5 Supervisor Judy Arnold and resignation of District 1 Supervisor Damon Connolly, there will be two new supervisors on the authority board. How will candidates for these seats stand up for housing and racial justice? What about Golden Gate Village?

Friends of Golden Gate Village, along with 24 Marin nonprofits, are sponsoring a forum to find out. Candidates Gina Daly, Mary Sackett, Kevin Morrison, Jason Sarris and Eric Lucan have agreed to participate. At the time of writing, candidates George Saribalis and Colin Medalie have declined. The Rev. Floyd Thompkins of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church of Marin City will moderate.

We encourage the public to join the forum on equitable housing and racial justice on Zoom at 7 p.m.on May 4. The meeting ID is 836 0998 6354. The passcode is 044212. Email friendsofggv@gmail.com with questions.
