Tam High baseball rolls past Redwood, stays in MCAL title hunt

The Tam High baseball team scored five runs in the third inning, keeping itself in the title picture while eliminatin­g Redwood following an 11-2 victory on Friday.

The Red-tailed Hawks (15-6, 11-3 MCAL) broke open the game with RBIs from Kaiden Dossa, Tyler Buxton and Colin Lam to extend to a 6-0 lead in the third. Tam scored four times in the top of the seventh to leave no doubt, completing a two-game sweep of Redwood this week.

Dossa and Matteo Bellisimo had two hits apiece for Tam, which needs to win its final two games next week against San Rafael to catch Marin Catholic in the standings. Dossa's three RBIs paced Tam while Buxton and Jake Moore drove in two runs apiece.

Buxton shut out Redwood through five innings of work, allowing four hits and striking out three. Charlie Welch had three of the eight hits for the Giants (15-7, 10-4).

• Jack Healy tossed a nohitter to lead San Rafael to a 7-0 win against Terra Linda on Friday. Healy struck out 11 and walked three on 108 pitches. Max Hattenbach hit a tworun homer in the top of the second, part of a twohit, three-RBI game. Ryan Scoles had three hits for the Bulldogs. Healy helped his own cause with two hits and an RBI.

• Jake Lyall had three hits and drove in four runs to pace Marin Catholic in a 7-2 victory against San Marin. Lyall had five total bases for MC (18-3, 133) which wraps up league play and clinches at least a tie for the regular-season title. Carl Schmidt drove in two runs and pitched 2/2 innings in relief for MC.

• Cal Amborn struck out 12 in collecting a completega­me shutout in a 3-0 win against Novato on Thursday. Jacob Rabb also pitched well for Novato, allowing four hits in five innings. All three runs were unearned. The result left both teams tied for the fourth and final spot for the MCAL playoffs with identical 8-6 records. Novato closes the season with two games against San Marin, which is also in the hunt for that playoff spot. Archie Williams closes with a pair of games against Terra Linda.

Prep softball

Kelsey McNair, Thomara Drummer and Megan Murphy all had two hits and combined to shut down West County from the circle in a 6-1 victory for San Rafael on Friday.

The three pitchers combined to allow eight hits and strike out eight over seven innings of work. Drummer drove in a pair of runs. Catcher Angel Amesa also had two hits for the Bulldogs (18-4), who opened the game with four runs in the first inning.

Girls track

Maya Greenholz won both sprints and Jean Baker won the 800 meters and the 1,600 to lead Redwood to wins over San Rafael (128-10) and Branson (102-25) on Thursday. Jaliyah Wiggins won the high jump (5-0) for Branson, 7513 winners over the Bulldogs.

• Angelique Addae won both sprints and Maddie Heathwood won both hurdles to pace Marin Catholic to wins over San Marin (87-42) and Branson (84-31) on Tuesday. Adeline Johnson picked up an impressive win in the 800 for Branson, which tied San Marin 5454. The Mustangs got double wins from Sally Cesko (high jump, pole vault) and Jena Clark (shot put, discus)

Boys track

Baden Bunch won the 100 and the 200 and YurMajesty Starbird won the high jump and the shot put to lead Redwood to wins against San Rafael (10517) and Branson (103-23) on Thursday. Dylan Moore won a pair of events (400, long jump) for San Rafael, which finished in a 42-42 tie against Branson. William Bollini won the triple jump (18-1) for the Bulls.

• Ziggy Nacco placed first in the 1,600 and the 3,200 on Tuesday for Marin Catholic, helping the Wildcats secure an 81-37 win against San Marin and a 68-35 win against Branson. Drew Ramos won the 100 for MC and Dominic Tagliaferr­i won the 200. Henry Houser won the 800 for Branson while Bollini took the long jump and triple jump. San Marin defeated Branson, 56-40.

Rowing

The Open Ocean Regatta is set to take place at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday at Sausalito Harbor. For the first time, the Open Ocean Regatta is including next gen watercraft — Stand Up Paddleboar­ds (SUPs), surf skis, and outriggers.

Participan­ts represent rowing clubs and individual rowers from Humboldt Bay to Monterey and will compete on two courses—a 10k course within Sausalito Harbor and a 14k challengin­g course out the Golden Gate to Point Diablo. Clubs represente­d include Berkeley Paddling & Rowing Club, Dolphin Club, South End Rowing Club, and the North Bay Rowing Club (NBRC).

Prep football

Marin Catholic standout Niki Prongos announced via Twitter on Wednesday night that he was committing to UCLA as a preferred walk on next season. Prongos — who is 6-feet, 7-inches tall — played tight end and on both lines for the Wildcats last season when they won the Division IV state championsh­ip. Prongos caught two passes for 17 yards and had 14 tackles in three games defensivel­y.

Former San Marin High standout Matt Sargent walked on to the UCLA team during the recent spring camp and could have a shot to make the roster next season.

Boys golf

Sean Madden took medalist honors with a 42 to lead Terra Linda to a 227253 victory against San Marin. Dom Moresco led the Mustangs with a 47. Stephan Roeck shot a career-best 47 for the Trojans (9-7), who will compete for the MCAL title at Indian Valley Golf Club on Monday with Marin Catholic, Redwood, Tam and Branson.
