Irsay isn't ready to oust Snyder, wants discussion

-

IRVING, TEXAS >> Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said Wednesday he isn't ready to oust Daniel Snyder as owner of the Washington Commanders and wants to discuss the possibility with other NFL owners.

Irsay said two months ago there was merit to removing Snyder amid several scandals and investigations into workplace misconduct with the Washington franchise.

Additionally, a House Committee on Oversight and Reform report released last week was sharply critical of the team and the league's handling of its issues.

“I'm not ready to vote him out,” Irsay said after attending the league's December meetings in the Dallas. “I need to hear more of my partners talk. It's been something where you want to get more information about everything is the key.”

Snyder's status has been widely debated for years, and the league has been investigating allegations of sexual misconduct and financial impropriety.

Commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday he hasn't given attorney Mary Jo White a timeline for issuing her report.

Goodell defended himself and the league against allegations in the report that the NFL had misled the public over investigations of the Washington franchise and wasn't holding people accountable. NFL DISCUSSING EJECTIONS ON ROUGHING-THE-PASSER PENALTIES >> The NFL is considering ejections for roughing-the-passer penalties and hits on defenseless players, although league executive Troy Vincent expressed caution on how such rulings would be enforced.

Vincent, a former player, said at the NFL owners meetings Wednesday the ejections were part of a discussion including roughing-the-passer calls among reviewable plays. CARDS GM KEIM TAKES HEALTH-RELATED LEAVE OF ABSENCE >> Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim has taken a leave of absence from the organization because of a health-related issue.

The team acknowledged Keim's health issues, but didn't elaborate. Quentin Harris and Adrian Wilson — who both work with Keim in player personnel — will handle his duties on an interim basis.

The team said it wouldn't have any further comment on Keim's health, citing privacy laws. WILSON OK FOR INDIVIDUAL DRILLS, BUT MISSES PRACTICE >> Russell Wilson stretched for a bit and threw a few passes during individual drills ahead of the Denver Broncos' practice as he works his way through the NFL's concussion protocol.

Wilson sustained a head injury Sunday when the veteran quarterback dived head-first for the goal line after scrambling for a 14-yard gain. He was replaced by backup Brett Rypien in the fourth quarter of Denver's 34-28 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Rypien would get his second start of the season Sunday if Wilson is sidelined against Arizona (4-9).

The Cardinals lost their starting QB, Kyler Murray, to a torn ACL on Monday night against the New England Patriots. He was replaced by backup Colt McCoy, who will start Sunday at Denver (3-10).
