ELIZABETH LIU

BRANSON GIRLS GOLF

- — Derek Wilson

Elizabeth Liu helped carry the banner not only for her team, but also for high school girls golf in Marin County in 2022.

Liu wrapped up an outstanding sophomore season at the North Coast Section Division I Championship on the par-71Foxtail South Golf Course in Rohnert Park, where she shot a 78— the lowest score among the 10 Marin golfers in the field. She was just six strokes away from a qualifying berth for the CIF NorCal Regionals.

Liu, the MCAL Player of the Year, earned low medalist honors with a 2-over-par 73during the MCAL Championship at the Meadow Club on October 17, 2022.

“It's been a journey this season,” said Liu, whose Bulls finished 14-2during the regular season. “Playing last year as a freshman, there were no expectations. This year, the expectations were there, but we were able to work through it.” Lui birdied three of the final four holes at the MCAL championship en route to shooting a score that was six strokes clear of the field.

“I'm lucky that my teammates and I practice and play here during the season,” Liu said after her round. “That took the competition and made it more relaxing. We're all just a bunch of friends out there.”

Liu, along with teammates Aimee Yang and Anna Han, form the core of a Branson girls golf squad that has developed into a powerhouse on courses around Marin and beyond the county's borders. Branson placed third as a team in the NCS Division II Championship at Petaluma's Rooster Run, with Liu, Han and Yang advancing to the Division 1Championship.

With talent growing stronger throughout the Bulls roster and the region, Liu and her teammates will be looking to up their game in 2023.
