Marin Academy's Zalayet named MVP

Marin Academy's Malcolm Zalayet was named the MVP for boys soccer in the Bay Counties League West when the all-league teams were released on Monday.

Zalayet, a striker, led the team in scoring during a season in which it went undefeated in league play, made a North Coast Section final and won a NorCal title.

Five of Zalayet's teammates were named to the first team — goalie Alex Hayward, defenders Parker Mascott, Tristan Schauble and Diego Doyle, plus midfielder Dane Knudsen.

San Domenico's Angelo Neto and Enzo Zamorano were also selected to the first team.

The girls soccer team, fresh off its own NorCal title, placed three players on the league's first team with midfielder­s Chloe Swindle and Kacy Walker, plus forward Imogen Jenkyn. San Domenico's Saliah Johnson also made the first team.

San Domenico, which hosts the NorCal Division IV championsh­ip game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Dominican University, placed two players — Maja Cykowska and Lily Reeser — on the first team for girls basketball. San Domenico's Gytis Gervickas made the first team on the boys side.

Prep softball

Thomara Drummer hit her first home run of the season but that was all the offense San Rafael would muster in a 5-1 loss to Albany in the season opener.

The Bulldogs (0-1) were limited to two hits on the day, with Drummer's home run coming in the fourth inning. Megan Murphy had the other hit and also drew a walk.

Drummer pitched 3.1 innings of shutout relief — allowing two hits while striking out four — after the Bulldogs surrendere­d five runs across the first three innings.

Boys golf

Jack Mount shot a 36 at McInnis Park to take medalist honors for Redwood in a 195-213 victory against Terra Linda. San Madden paced the Trojans with a 38. Dominic Orlando, Sam Sumski and Arjun Aujla all shot 39s for the Giants.
