Redwood walks off against Tam in ninth inning

Danil Wells came up clutch in the seventh inning and then again in the ninth as Redwood rallied twice to defeat Tam 6-5 on Thursday night.

Wells hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning then singled home the winning run in the ninth to cap Redwood's victory.

The Giants (7-1, 3-0 MCAL) went ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth but Tam tied the game in the sixth and went ahead 4-3 in the seventh. Tam took a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth but was unable to hold it.

Tyler Buxton pitched six solid innings for Tam (4-5, 4-1), striking out six while allowing seven hits and three earned runs.

Redwood's winning rally began when Rex Solle singled to lead off the ninth. Rory Minty was hit by a pitch then Ben Resick bunted both runners over.

The two teams are set to play each other again at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Tam.

• Freshman Cohen Garcia drove in six runs to lead Novato to a 16-4 victory against Branson on Thursday. Cohen had three hits and scored twice as the clean-up hitter for the Hornets (6-3, 4-2). Leadoff hitter Evan Black had three hits, two RBIs and scored four times. Nathan Dito also had three hits. Branson (6-4, 3-3) was led by Liam Parrot, who had two hits and drove in two runs.

• John Holtz and Josh Martin had RBIs as San Marin fell 6-2 against Maria Carrillo on Thursday. The Mustangs (4-4) were limited to four hits but only trailed 1-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning. Maria Carrillo scored three times in the sixth and tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh.

• Luca Genovese drove in the only run for Archie Williams in an 18-1 loss against Sonoma Valley on Thursday. Mike Wick and Jackson Oliver-Roa had the only hits for the Peregrine Falcons (2-7).

• Danil Wells and Gavin Soper had runscoring singles in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift Redwood to a 4-2 come-from-behind victory against San Marin on Wednesday. The Giants (6-1, 2-0) scored four times in the frame and scored the go-ahead runs on Soper's base hit. Rory Minty scattered nine hits in 6.2 innings of work for Redwood. Rex Solle got the final out as San Marin (4-3, 3-2) had the tying runners on base. Josh Martin had two hits and two RBIs for San Marin. Riley DeSilva also had two hits.

• Peter Irwin stuck out eight and allowed three hits in six innings to lead Archie Williams to a 2-0 victory against San Rafael on Wednesday. The Peregrine Falcons (2-5, 1-4) scored a run in the third inning on a single by Charlie Scola then added another in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk by Henry Hanavan. Both teams were limited to three hits in the game. San Rafael pitcher Lazio Clements allowed two hits in five innings of work and had a hit for the Bulldogs (1-6, 0-5).

Prep softball

Elle McElreath and Ashley Weingart delivered big hits in a five-run second inning to lead Redwood to a 6-4 win against Archie Williams on Thursday.

Two runners came around to score on McElreath's single to give Redwood (3-2-1, 2-0) a 2-0 lead. Hailey Carlton stole home during Weingart's at bat then two more runs scored when Weingart singled into center field.

Georgia Pineda pitched a complete game, with six hits and three earned runs allowed. Weingart and Maizy Crawford had two hits apiece for the Giants.

Amelia Richer paced Archie Williams (0-5, 0-2) with two hits, a walk, an RBI and a run scored.

Boys golf

Branson School defeated San Rafael 199-282 Thursday behind Bulls junior Aria Saluja, who managed a 1-over par 37 at Peacock Gap as Marin's golf courses received a muchneeded respite from the recent storms. Branson moves to 5-0 in the MCAL.

Girls lacrosse

Elsa Greene and Isabelle Proietti each scored four goals, while Audrey Carr scored twice and had five draw controls as Marin Catholic beat Novato 22-7 Thursday to remain undefeated. Cassidy Brown added three goals for the Wildcats (5-0) and Marlie Nies had seven assists. Goalkeeper Jojo Martinez came up with seven saves.

Registrati­ons and tryouts for the upcoming season have been extended with tryouts set to be held at noon on March 26 at San Marin High. The league offers a proven path for skill developmen­t on a regulation-size field to prepare for high school baseball. The league is open to players throughout Marin.
