Clippers' George has knee sprain, will be reevaluated

-

The Los Angeles Clippers may be without All-Star Paul George to start the postseason.

The team said Wednesday that George has a sprained right knee and he will be reevaluated in two to three weeks.

The Clippers began the day in fifth place in the Western Conference with a 38-35 record. They end the regular season on April 9 at Phoenix, a team they could meet in the first round of the playoffs, which begin six days later.

George got hurt after going down hard late in a 101100 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night. His knee made contact with the Thunder's Luguentz Dort, who was going for a rebound with 4:38 remaining.

George needed help to leave the court, appearing unable to put any weight on his right leg, and once inside the tunnel he was carried to the locker room. He later left the arena on a cart with his right leg extended.

WILLIAMSON OUT FOR AT LEAST 2 MORE WEEKS >>

AllStar forward Zion Williamson will not return for at least two more weeks, jeopardizing whether he will be a part of the New Orleans Pelicans' playoff push.

The Pelicans announced that Williamson, who has not played since straining his right hamstring Jan. 2, “has been cleared to return to on-court activities” and “will be re-evaluated in two weeks.”

Pelicans coach Willie Green said the organization is “taking a slower approach” with Williamson's rehab after the team's leading scorer suffered a “re-injury” in February.

JORDAN CONSIDERING SALE OF HORNETS >> Michael Jordan is considering selling the Charlotte Hornets.

The six-time NBA champion is in negotiations to sell at least a portion of the franchise to a group that includes Hornets minority owner Gabe Plotkin.

No deal is imminent. In 2019, Jordan sold a portion of the Hornets to Plotkin, a founder of Melvin Capital, and Daniel Sundheim of DI Capital, but Jordan still controlled the majority of the team's equity.

MOREAU SAYS HE HAS CANCER >> NFL tight end Foster Moreau posted on Twitter he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma during a physical with the New Orleans Saints.

The 25-year-old Moreau added he was stepping away from football for now and vowed to beat the cancer “and get back to doing what I love!”

Moreau is a free agent who played the previous four seasons for the Raiders, who took him in the fourth round of the 2019 draft out of LSU when the Las Vegas team was based in Oakland. Last season, he set career highs with 33 catches for 420 yards. Moreau also caught two touchdown passes. BROWNS LAND WR MOORE FROM JETS >> Cleveland added another offensive playmaker and target for quarterback Deshaun Watson, acquiring Elijah Moore in a trade with the

Jets, who have overhauled their receiving group this offseason — perhaps in advance of quarterback Aaron Rodgers' arrival.

The Browns have agreed to send the No. 42 pick in this year's draft to the Jets for Moore and the No. 74 selection. The deal's completion is pending a physical.

The Jets are parting ways with Moore, a second-round pick in 2021, shortly after agreeing to terms with former Kansas City wide receiver Mecole Hardman on a one-year deal, according to a person with knowledge of the contract.

MLB ALLOWS SOME PITCH CLOCK DELAYS >>

Major League Baseball has clarified its new rules to allow umpires to delay the start of the pitch clock after big swings in which a hitter loses footing or when a pitcher covers first base, third or home, in addition to other clarifications.

The commissioner's office said in its memo that if a catcher ends an inning on base, at bat or on deck, an umpire may determine the catcher needs additional time and allow the pitcher another warmup throw and the catcher to throw to second base.

The MLB also said whether a defensive team violated the new shift restrictions will be subject to a video review only involving the first player to touch a ball after a pitch.

The league also said that after a batter uses his one allowed timeout during a plate appearance, the clock shall start when the hitter indicates he is ready in addition to the previous specification when he returned to the batter's box.

The clarifications ahead of March 30 openers were contained in a four-page memo sent by MLB senior vice president Michael Hill to managers, general managers and assistant general managers, a copy of which was obtained by the Associated Press.

APPLE TV+ ANNOUNCES 2ND SEASON OF `FRIDAY NIGHT BASEBALL' >>
