Tam's Friedman places third at Wildcat Invite

Tam High's Ben Friedman took home the thirdplace individual medal from Monday's Wildcat Invitation­al during a cold and blustery day at the Meadow Club. Friedman shot an even-par 71. Sam Baumiller of Saint Francis was low medalist for the day at 67, followed by Cardinal Newman's Ryan Bello at 69.

Saint Francis stood out as the winning team (291) in the field of 23 squads, with Cardinal Newman and Crystal Springs tied at 307. Cardinal Newman won the tiebreaker with Crystal Springs for second place based on Bello's 69. Crystal Springs, making its first appearance in the tournament, was led by Griffin Chiu's 72.

Friedman and Haden Thill (74) led the Red-tailed Hawks (311) to a fifth-place finish. Branson (315) placed seventh, with Aria Saluja and Carl Smith tied at 77. Tenth-place Redwood was close behind at 318, led by Sam Sumski's 77.

Luca DeNunzio (78) led host Marin Catholic's `A' squad (322), while Jasper Smith shot a 78 to lead the Wildcats' `B' team, which finished close behind at 325.

Terra Linda (329) had an even lineup as Kaden Martin,

Derek Newhall and Micah Albers all tied at 82 for the Trojans, who finished 14th. Sean Madden and Tyler Davis tied at 83 to round out the Trojans order.

Charlie Wilhelm shot an 81 to lead Marin Academy (339). Max Figueroa's 91 led San Marin (380) as he tied with Nicholas Lillevand of Archie Williams (388)

Eighth-place Saint Ignatius tallied a 316, led by Teddy W. Gardner's 76.

Prep softball

Bella Ferrity hit a twoout in the bottom of the seventh as Marin Catholic walked off with a 6-5 win against Terra Linda in the MCAL opener for both teams Monday. MC (2-01, 1-0 MCAL) scored three times in the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead but TL bounced back with three runs of its own to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the seventh. Ferrety paced MC with three hits and two RBIs. Grace Berringer had two hits and Anna Held drove in two runs. Starting pitcher Selina Pena struck out 13 in seven innings.

• Thomara Drummer hit a double and a triple at the plate and pitched a complete game with 15 strikeouts in a 12-2 win against Novato on Monday. Drummer allowed four hits and two earned runs. Sophia

Everett hit a home run for the Bulldogs (5-0, 1-0). Angel Amesa and Jaela Brown had two RBIs apiece for the Bulldogs. Claire Hannan had an RBI single for the Hornets (1-5, 0-1) and also pitched 6.1 innings.

• Stella Belluomini allowed three hits and struck out 11 in seven innings to lift Redwood (3-2, 1-0) to an 8-0 win against Archie Williams. Maziy Crawford had three hits, two RBIs and two runs for the Giants. Elle McElreath had two hits, an RBI and a run. Paige Murphy, Amelia Richer, and Emma Freed had hits for the Peregrine Falcons (1-2, 0-1).

Prep baseball

Marin Catholic scored on a walk and an error in the fourth inning, taking the lead for good in a 3-2 win against Archie Williams on Monday. Both teams were limited to four hits but the Peregrine Falcons committed four errors. Walker Untermann allowed two hits over five innings for MC (42, 1-2). Sam Black went the distance for Archie Williams (2-4, 2-1), allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out 11.

• Dominic Scafani was 2-for-3 and Gio Castaing doubled but Novato could not muster enough offense in Monday's 4-0 loss to host

Vintage, Hornets pitcher Julian Oliver took the loss as he gave up five hits and two runs across four innings, while he struck out four batters.

Women's lacrosse

Dominican University wrapped up its swing through Colorado with an 18-11 loss to Rockhurst on Monday. The Penguins (13) got three goals each from Stella Artukovich and Jacelyn Lazore.

Prep swimming

Marin Catholic's boys and girls teams defeated the Branson School on Friday, with the boys winning 114-25, and the girls winning 104-64. But some Bulls swimmers are off to a fast start to the season. Branson's Ashley Vela won the 100 breaststro­ke with a personal record of 1 minute, 15.95 seconds, and Maeve McAuley won the 100 backstroke in 1:05.94. On the boys side, Branson's Cameron Aryanpour is looking like a North Coast Section qualifier with a mark of 21.25 seconds to win the 50 freestyle. Aryanppour also won the 100 back (53.92). Nate Johnson posted NCS considerat­ion times in winning the 100 free (48.92) and placing second in the 50 free (21.93).
