Black tosses gem as Archie Williams records the sweep against San Marin

Sam Black limited San Marin to four hits and one unearned run in 6.2 innings of work as the Archie Williams High baseball team picked up a 6-1 home victory on Thursday.

Black struck out 10 hitters with the only run allowed coming after a dropped third strike in the first inning that gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.

Archie Williams (8-5, 6-2 MCAL) tied the game in the bottom of the frame then added three runs in the third and two more insurance runs in the sixth. The top of the order combined for five of the Peregrine Falcons' seven hits with Jack Evans getting three hits, two RBIs, and two runs. Hudson Lofrano added two hits, a walk, and a run.

The Peregrine Falcons have won six in a row following a two-game sweep of San Marin (7-4, 5-3) this week. Jake Simpson led the Mustangs with two hits.

• Redwood scored four runs in the second inning and kept Novato at arm's length from there, securing an 8-4 victory on Thursday. The win keeps the Giants (10-1, 9-1) alone in first place in the MCAL. Chase Johnson got Redwood on the board with a single to score Matthew Knauer. Sam Gersch provided the biggest hit of the game with a bases-clearing single to make it 4-0. Julian Oliver and J.P. Harmon both hit home runs for the Hornets (8-6, 5-3), who are tied for fourth place with San Marin.

• Mo Jacoby executed a bunt single in the bottom of the seventh as Branson walked off with a 4-3 victory against San Rafael on Thursday. Jacoby laid down the bunt with the bases loaded to score Jackson Kayser with the tying run. San Rafael committed a throwing error on the play which allowed Enrique Dominguez to score the winning run. Branson (4-10, 1-9) picked up its first league win of the season despite being held to three hits. Marcos Tolliver pitched 6.1 innings with five strikeouts and four runs (one earned) for San Rafael (3-8, 2-6).

• Marin Catholic surrendere­d four runs in the bottom of the fifth, allowing Bakersfiel­d Christian to break open a tie game en route to an 8-5 victory at the Scott Boras North tournament on Thursday. Carter Capobianco, Carson Davis and Jake Lyall had two hits apiece for MC (6-8) and Jayden Lee had a team-high two RBIs. Bakersfiel­d leadoff hitter Luke Mann gave MC fits with four hits, including a two-run single in the crucial fifth inning.

• Tam put together a fourrun rally in the bottom of the sixth but it wasn't quite enough in a 6-4 loss to De Anza Thursday. Eli Solem singled in Tito Fierstein, who led off the inning with a triple. Jack Hanna later hit a three-run homer to pull Tam (8-6) within 6-4. De Anza retired the next three hitters to end the inning but ran into trouble in the seventh. Fierstein hit a two-out single then De Anza opted to walk Solem intentiona­lly to put the tying run on base. De Anza induced a pop out to end the game two pitches later.

Prep softball

Stella Belluomini tossed a one-hitter to lead Redwood to a 3-0 win against Windsor on Thursday. Belluomini struck out seven, walked four and allowed only a first-inning double.

The Giants (8-3) took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning before Kait Christense­n singled to score Addy Dunn to make it 2-0. Lily Cox added a sacrifice fly for the final margin.

Boys swimming

Terra Linda continued its undefeated season in MCALs getting double-winning efforts from four swimmers in a 128-42 win against Archie Williams on Thursday.

Ben Butler (100 fly, 54.51 seconds; 100 back, 55.69), Nicholas Arinduque (200 IM, 2:03.34; 100 breast, 5963), Cam Hellar (200 free, 1:51.65; 500 free, 5:15.69), and Jack Middleton (50 free, 23.22; 100 free 51.84) led the way for TL (6-0).

Girls swimming

Archie Williams posted a 112-70 victory against Terra Linda on Thursday. TL was led by Jamie Schmidt, who won the 200 IM in 2:26.75, and the 100 breast in 1:17.64.

Boys tennis

Julian Zhang and Tug Ricordel secured wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 singles spots, respective­ly, to lead Redwood to a 6-1 victory against Terra Linda on Thursday. Luka Ratra had the lone win for TL at No. 3 singles.

College baseball

Napa Valley scored four runs in the first inning en route to a 10-2 victory against College of Marin Thursday in a game that was moved to Kentfield because of wet conditions in Napa. The Mariners surrendere­d two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings and scored two runs in the eighth.

Lucas Schaefer had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored to lead the Mariners (17-10, 6-2 Bay Valley).

Boys golf

Nick Gentile shot a 42 to lead San Marin to a 216-258 win against Novato at Indian Valley on Wednesday. Liam Everson carded a 47 to pace the Hornets.

Prep track

Joaquin Foster set a school record while winning the 1,600 meters at the BCL West meet at Kezar Stadium on Wednesday. Foster turned in a time of 4 minutes, 22.89 seconds to win the event. Foster also won the 800 in 1:59.43.

Omar Williams also set a school record with a time of 17.5 seconds to win the 110 hurdles. The San Domenico boys finished fourth overall with 46 points.

Petra Betti led the way as the girls team scored 32 points to finish seventh. Betti set a school record with a 12.97 in the 100, taking third place. Betti also placed third in the shot put with a distance of 28 feet, 9.5 inches.

Boys lacrosse

Brian Yates netted the game winner in double overtime as Novato outlasted Tam 9-8 on Tuesday. Yates scored a teamhigh four goals for the Hornets (4-7, 2-1). Tyler Smith and Johnny Roman added two goals each and Parker Napp had the other goal.
