A ‘Story’ 50 years in the making
James M. and Carolyn M. Story recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a surprise family celebration. The Pomfret couple married on Dec. 26, 1966 at Orems Methodist Church in Middle River.
Over the years, the couple shared a few moves, including a couple stops in Texas, and careers together. Jim was stationed at Shepherd Air Force Base, serving as an instructor in environmental entomology, before returning to Charles County to work with the Maryland State Health Department until his retirement on Oct. 1, 1996. Carolyn worked several jobs over the years and most recently served as the Somers Community Center coordinator with the Charles County Parks and Recreation Division, retiring July 31, 2007.
The couple celebrated their anniversary with many family members, including Carolyn’s 92-year-old mother, who came from Lansdale, Pa. They spent their anniversary day in Virginia Beach at the home of their son, Ben; daughter-in-law, Susan; grandsons, Jared and Ian; and Susan’s parents, Chuck and Barbara Runner. Several weeks later, they enjoyed a stay at the Battlefield Bed and Breakfast in Gettysburg, Pa.
