Blue Crabs to hold FanFest

The South­ern Mary­land Blue Crabs will kick off its ninth sea­son with FanFest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 9 at Re­gency Fur­ni­ture Sta­dium in Wal­dorf. The event is free.

Kick­ing off fes­tiv­i­ties will be the an­nual St. Charles Run­ning Festival, with a 10-mile, 5K and kids fun run. For more in­for­ma­tion or to regis­ter, go to www. stcharlesrun­fest.com.

Fans will have an op­por­tu­nity to watch the Blue Crabs hold open try­outs from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $45 to try­out with bats and hel­mets pro­vided by the team. The third an­nual Crus­tacean Na­tion Soft­ball Face­off will be­gin at 1 p.m. The first 16 fans to regis­ter will be bro­ken up into teams and par­tic­i­pants will be given four tick­ets to open­ing night, April 21. BMX bike ses­sions will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Satur­days at Charles County Skatepark, which is at White Plains Re­gional Park.

Stan­dard skatepark ad­mis­sion fees ap­ply. Cy­clists 18 and younger must have a par­ent or le­gal guardian present at time of reg­is­tra­tion.

South­ern Mary­land Roller Derby will have its first home bout of 2016 ver­sus Fredericksburg Roller Derby on April 9 at Cap­i­tal Club­house in Wal­dorf.

Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and the bout be­gins at 1 p.m.

Rawl­ings A’s Prospects is look­ing for play­ers to help it de­fend the 2015 DC Col­le­giate League Cham­pi­onship. Play­ers who are grad­u­at­ing high school seniors and cur­rent col­lege play­ers are el­i­gi­ble to play.
