Rafaela Correa Bolling

Rafaela Correa Bolling of Waldorf, MD, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 30, 2016 at her home. She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on July 5, 1917 to the late Vicente Adalid Correa-Carmona and the late Juana Cintron-Correa. She attended school in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Oswald Lauritz Bolling; her sisters, Carmen Correa-George, Margarita Febres and Daniela Correa-Williams; her brothers, Vicente (Tito) Correa Jr., Guilermo Febres, Guango Correa, and Cheo Correa.

She is survived by her daughter, Carmen R. Quinones; sonin-law, Pedro J. Quinones-Tavarez (both of Waldorf); her sisters, Maria Emilia (Mary) Correa-Fluhr of Wilmington, DE, and Gloria Esther Correa-Pillot of Bayamon, Puerto Rico; and many nieces and nephews.

Rafaela enjoyed sewing and was a seamstress for all her working life, taking great delight in making coats, draperies, and especially designing and making her daughter’s wedding dress, reading about the history of Puerto Rico, and decorating her home. She loved remembering about life as it was when she was growing up in Puerto Rico. She also enjoyed watching soap operas and variety programs on Spanish television. She also had a soft spot in her heart for dogs and cats and had always been surrounded by them.

She looked forward to her visits by Sr. Theresa Frere, IHM, Coordinator of Ministry to the Sick and Homebound at St. Peter’s Church, who visited her every two weeks to bring communion and prayer and lots of reading material for her entertainment, and delighted very much in the fact that Sr. Theresa learned to deliver the prayers in Rafaela’s native Spanish. This was always the highlight of her week and she spent hours reading all the material that Sr. Theresa provided.

Rafaela arrived in New York City with her daughter in Dec. 1948, moved to Charles County in 1989, and quickly grew to love her new home.

Friends received from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 6 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 3320 St. Peter’s Drive, Waldorf, MD 20601. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements by Raymond Funeral Service in La Plata, MD.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Charles County, 2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, MD 20603.

Alice “Elaine” Richards January 15, 1925 – May 28, 2016 Alice “Elaine” (Holden) Richards of La Plata, MD entered into eternal life at the age of 91 on May 28, 2016.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Katherine (Kathy) Carro of Ocean View, DE, and Donna Marie McCarthy (Jack) of Stevensville, MD, in addition to five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Elaine was the eldest of seven children leaving sister, June Bryant of Salisbury, MD, and brother, Joseph Holden (Shirley), of St. Augustine, FL.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, John Robert (Johnny) Richards, parents, John and Gladys (Robertson) Holden, sisters and brother, Charlotte Goering, Mary Jane Feickert, Joan Hancock, and William (Billy) Holden.

Elaine worked for the U.S. Government for over 30 years and retired in 1985; she and Johnny both enjoyed many senior club activities with the Potomac Heights Leisure Club and St. Charles Senior Citizen Club.

For many years, Elaine was one of the most reliable and dedicated volunteers at Civista Hospital’s Same Day Surgery in La Plata, and enjoyed weekly Bingo games where many times she was asked to “call.” But, without a doubt, Elaine’s heart belonged to her church and the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of the Carmel of Port Tobacco. No request of the good nuns ever went unanswered and Elaine’s car was often seen tooling down the highway on one errand or another. Even “Peter Pan” couldn’t help but be impressed by all her travels on Mt. Carmel’s behalf.

Elaine was not only a good and loving wife and mother, but in many ways, a playmate to her ten grandchildren, and, to the delight of her grandchildren, seemed never to grow up.

Following a private Mass of Christian Burial, Elaine will be interred next to Johnny in Mt. Carmel on Thursday, June 2.
