Ro­tary Club of Char­lotte Hall and Stephen’s Fund award $20,000 in scholarships

The Ro­tary Club of Char­lotte Hall and Stephen’s Fund awarded $20,000 in scholarships to 20 col­lege-bound stu­dents at the club’s gen­eral meet­ing on June 21.

“The club’s schol­ar­ship pro­gram demon­strates our com­mit­ment to the St. Mar y’s County com­mu­nity,” said Joe Slater, club pres­i­dent. “This year’s re­cip­i­ents of the Ser­vice Above Self Schol­ar­ship are ded­i­cated to serv­ing oth­ers and un­der­stand the im­por­tance of giv­ing back to the com­mu­nity. We are pleased to in­vest in the suc­cess of these fu­ture leaders.”

Speak­ing to schol­ar­ship re­cip­i­ents, Ro­tar­ian Steve Mat­tingly said he and his wife, Shirley, es­tab­lished Stephen’s Fund and the Stephen D. Mat­tingly II Me­mo­rial Schol­ar­ship in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Ro­tary Club of Char­lotte Hall to pre­serve the mem­ory of their son, Stephen, while mak­ing an im­pact in the com­mu­nity. Stephen was born in 1989 with Down syn­drome and passed away just be­fore his 10th birth­day from leukemia.
