Soup kitchen gets Food Lion foundation check

-

Our Place Waldorf received $2,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation just in time to help feed local residents, according to a press release. Our Place Waldorf will use the gift to purchase food for the twice-a-week dinners and non-perishable items for the togo bags all guests receive.

“Our Place Waldorf will use this grant to fund our Monday and Thursday night dinners whenever we do not have sponsors available. We very much appreciate the support and the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation gift,” said Deanna Gerhart, executive director of Our Place.

Our Place was established in October 2012 with the vision to raise awareness of hunger and homelessness in Southern Maryland and provide a daily nutritious meal, friendship and additional resources in an unbiased environment. Volunteers have served dinners every Thursday since, and in April 2016, the soup kitchen was able to add dinners on Monday nights as well.

Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves.
