Waldorf’s Johns named one of Top Drawer Soccer’s best

-

Branden Johns, 14, of Waldorf, was named one of Top Drawer Soccer’s best players at its recent showcase for players without college commitments. Johns, who will start his freshman year at St. Mary’s Ryken High School this fall, earned a spot in the Cary, N.C., event’s “Best Eleven.” TDS operates showcases across the nation so girls and boys can display their skills for college coaches. Johns, a right wing and striker for Bethesda Soccer Club South 2002, was the youngest player named to the showcase’s all-star team which also included players who will graduate from high school in 2017. TDS called Johns’ speed “searing” and said he used that speed to “cut through the defensive line and score two quality goals.” Scouts noted Johns’ athleticism was “a level above most players in his age group.” They said his ability to score goals and create chances in the offensive third of the field “will take him far.”
