Lackey grad­u­ates cel­e­brate 60th reunion

The Lackey High School Class of 1956 held its 60th reunion Sept. 9 and 10. Of the 46 grad­u­ates from 1956, 16 at­tended along with their spouses and friends.

The fes­tiv­i­ties be­gan Fri­day with a visit to Henry E. Lackey High School to view the “Spirit of Lackey Dis­play.” This ex­hibit, filled with mem­o­ra­bilia from ear­lier days of Lackey, was pre­sented to the school by the Class of ’56 at its 50th an­niver­sary in 2006.

The af­ter­noon con­tin­ued with a tour of Gen­eral Small­wood Mid­dle School in Gly­mont. This fa­cil­ity was pre­vi­ously the site of Lackey Ju­nior Se­nior High School and a new build­ing when th­ese alumni were teenagers.

The day con­cluded at the Black Box The­atre in In­dian Head where they en­joyed a ‘50s pre­sen­ta­tion from Hick­ory Dick­ory Dark and a gourmet pizza party.

Satur­day evening the class­mates en­joyed a celebration sup­per at Zee Best Café Too at the Hawthorne Coun­try Club as they shared mem­o­ries and sto­ries from the past. Many grew up to­gether, were class­mates from the first grade through high school and re­main close friends to­day. The next reunion is cur­rently being planned.
