Lackey graduates celebrate 60th reunion
The Lackey High School Class of 1956 held its 60th reunion Sept. 9 and 10. Of the 46 graduates from 1956, 16 attended along with their spouses and friends.
The festivities began Friday with a visit to Henry E. Lackey High School to view the “Spirit of Lackey Display.” This exhibit, filled with memorabilia from earlier days of Lackey, was presented to the school by the Class of ’56 at its 50th anniversary in 2006.
The afternoon continued with a tour of General Smallwood Middle School in Glymont. This facility was previously the site of Lackey Junior Senior High School and a new building when these alumni were teenagers.
The day concluded at the Black Box Theatre in Indian Head where they enjoyed a ‘50s presentation from Hickory Dickory Dark and a gourmet pizza party.
Saturday evening the classmates enjoyed a celebration supper at Zee Best Café Too at the Hawthorne Country Club as they shared memories and stories from the past. Many grew up together, were classmates from the first grade through high school and remain close friends today. The next reunion is currently being planned.
